Personality & Traits
General Overview | Marc is a strong willed man, with a very business-like demeanor. When on duty he is all about getting the job done, and getting it done right the first time. He doesn't accept excuses, and expects a lot from his people. When off duty he is not much different. He keeps his quarters impeccable, detests clutter of any kind, and is incredibly picky about the people he allows into his life. Along with that he is also an intensely private man, not sharing much about himself with those around him, and is not interested in making acquaintances, or even friends for that matter. Most of this reclusive behavior is due to the suicide of his late wife, and the pain he still feels from losing her, and not even noticing how much pain she was in.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Intelligent, quick thinking, ethical, fair, and honest, are his greatest strengths. On the flip side, however, he can be bluntly honest, to the point of being hurtful, tends to expect more than is realistic from those he works with, and can be emotionally distant in both professional, and personal relationships.
Ambitions | To retire from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, and return home to London.
Hobbies & Interests | Engineering in all it's various forms, history, literature, good food, good wine, fine tobacco, music, fashion, antique automobiles, horses, and dogs. |
Personal History | Marc was born and raised in London, England. He attended primary education there, and secondary at Oxford, getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the age of twenty five. As a child he had an ideal home life, with both parents involved in his raising, and a loving, supportive group of siblings, and other family members always around. In many ways it was idyllic, not just ideal. Because of this he grew up with a strong confidence, and a strongly instilled sense of ethics. His mother, an historian, taught him to cherish, and make use of all the lessons that history can teach us, as well as a love of literature, and how it has both shaped, and been shaped by history. His father, an civilian engineer by trade, brought him up to both enjoy, and to be quite adept in the field. From a young age he had him working out mechanical problems with things like old-style combustion engines, all the way up to theoretical problems like warp-core imbalances, and things of that nature. In school he was a model student, often performing more than adequately, and even going in for sports on the side, which was a surprise to many in his family, as they usually tended to be more studious than physical. Showing a great aptitude for football, known as soccer to some, he would even go out for, and be accepted into the school team in middle school, and on into his final years. At Oxford he would forgo the sports, however, and devote the entirety of his attention to this studies. From Oxford he would apply to sit the entrance exams for Starfleet Academy, and surprising no-one he both passed, and was accepted. His only field of interest being Engineering he was placed there, and spent the next four years refining the skills, and knowledge that his father had already given him, and added to it as well. After graduation he was assigned to the USS Talbott, and would serve as a junior engineer there for the entirety of her five year mission. Moving on he went to the USS T'Pol, as an engineering officer, graduating out of the juniors, and into the more focused fields, such as structural and environmental specialist, and computer systems specialist. His Chief Engineer recognized his hard work, and his ability to learn systems quickly, and well, and began to cross train him in multiple disciplines. By the end of the seven years he served with her he had moved up in rank to Lieutenant, and was her assistant. At that point he was also married, having met Margaret, the woman he'd fall in love with, and had two children already nearly in their tweens. They would all move on together, from the T'Pol to Starbase 75, where he was stationed as a Chief Engineer in Training, and she was placed as one of the stations many medical officers, also in training for a CMO sport of her own. They would stay there, together, for another ten years, with Margaret eventually getting the CMO spot, and Marc actually being placed as the stations CEO as well. Both children would grow into adulthood, and go off to join Starfleet as well. A year after the children had both gone, and after a crippling bout of depression, most likely caused by the empty nest syndrome she felt after their departure, Margaret took her own life while Marc was on duty. He found her, lifeless in their quarters at the end of his shift, having taken an overdose of a strong sedative that she had snuck out of sickbay. He was devastated, but threw himself that much harder into his work to escape the pain. A year and a half later he applied for a transfer off of the starbase and onto a shipboard position that would allow him to get away from a place that still held a lot of pain for him, and maybe, just maybe begin to heal. His application was accepted, and he was transfered to the USS Saigon, as her Chief Engineering Officer. |
