Species Caninoid
Age 139

Physical Description Tall at 2.159m. Fit, athletic and strong. Covered head to paw in fur. Similar in shape and structure to a Caitian, except with canine features in place of feline. Ergo, head, paws, and tail of a wolf.

The first thing that one notices when seeing Vanth is strength, the wolf like appearance, thick furs and strong limbs and build all make even a Klingon think twice before they would anger it. Once one gets closer though the softer aspects come out better the soft and well groomed fur, the stunning eyes featuring hues of Ice cold blue and Sun warm gold create for an amazing mix of colors and depth.

A uniform is of course a must when one serves, but no one would put some one like Vanth in a standard uniform, the heat alone would be to much. So Vanth wears a light uniform loosing fitting over its fur coat to make sure neither heat or a ruined coat will be a problem.

When it speaks there is this deep voice with a soft rumble in the tone, it carries a great power at one moment and great sense of caring at the other for behind all the strong exterior rest a caring person.

Vanth has a very limited shape shifting ability. S/he has only two forms.

Bipedal Caninoid:
This form looks like a wolf standing upright on two legs, with hands where hir front feet would be.

Quadraped/feral Caninoid:
This form looks just like a wolf of earth. S/he still maintains hir intellect completely. However s/he is unable to use Federation Standard or any other humanoid language in this form. Instead s/he has to use a universal translator in the form of a commbadge attached to a collar.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Dr. Vanth is an easy going free-spirited individual. S/he is loyal to hir coworkers, teammates, and superiors. When on duty s/he has an average work ethic, and is focused on the task at hand, and works well with others. S/he isn't however a “stick-in-the-mud” and doesn't mind a bit of fun and perhaps some flirting from time-to-time. Though, s/he is always a consummate professional.

Quite often being the odd one out – partially due to hir kind being new to the Federation – Dr. Vanth doesn't let this break hir however, and s/he is on the constant lookout for a new friend, companion, or partner. Dr. Vanth likes to try new things, and s/he likes to be invited to and enjoy new activities. S/he enjoys a variety of arts including fictional stories, and comics. S/he sometimes likes to partake in holo-adventures involving the characters s/he has read about.

Being of a pack species, s/he is sociable. S/he enjoys the company of others and will often seek them out, including the sort that s/he complains s/he doesn't ever get. Beware, one of hir kind's most common form of greeting, instead of a handshake, is a friendly hug. Most of the “beastinoids” on hir planet don't have the same social inhibitions about personal space and affectionate touching that many humanoids do, and as a result Vanth may make others slightly uncomfortable until they get used to hir affections.

Being a predatory species, sometimes, though rare, the doctor gets the urge to “pounce”, or to “hunt”. This does not usually lead to violence, but is all in good fun, as Vanth has little to no aggression, unless called for. S/he is more often likely to recluse hirself in a holodeck until hir prey drive is met. Though a good commander might know when to take advantage of these skills.
Strengths & Weaknesses Specialist Skills: Superior senses. Telepathy, Empathy, Feral form (a.k.a. quadruped form.)

Vanth scores high on the psi scale. S/he is telepathic and empathic. However, s/he is very strict about not using her telepathy on non-telepaths with out permission, but s/he is unable to to "turn off" hir empathic abilities.

Dr. Vanth has a unique physiology that causes hir great distress if s/he goes through a transporter. S/he is effectively allergic to the transporter.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Vanth is unable to shift to or from hir feral form.
Ambitions Dr. Vanth strives to be the best leader of hir medical team, s/he can possibly be. S/he strives to eventually transfer to command department in order to become an executive officer of, and eventually command of a medical starship.
Hobbies & Interests Collects and reads a large variety and age groups of, digital as well as real graphic novels and comic books, manga, and henti. Board and card gaming. Holo-hunting. Flirting, and as someone once called it “nocturnal activities.”

Personal History Doctor Vanth grew up in much the same fashion described above. After graduating from a form of high school s/he took a job at an orphanage for two years taking care of 'feral adults and young who are without homes for various reasons. It was during this time, which s/he developed an interest in the veterinary sciences and a heart for healing and caring for others.

After two years, s/he felt s/he had a good grasp on what it was like to live in the “real world”, so s/he decided to enter secondary schooling with hir parents' enthusiasm and support. S/he signed up and was easily accepted to a public school, entering their veterinary technician program. It was supposed to be a two year program, but s/he ended up taking three – s/he couldn't fully abandon the orphans after-all.

After graduation, Vanth, was rehired by the orphanage as a full-fledged Vet. Tech. S/he worked there for a while longer, but after a while s/he began to feel the call to education again, and soon entered graduate school with an eye to become a full fledged veterinarian.

Graduate school was a little harder than s/he thought, and half-way through s/he was forced to resign hir position at the orphanage, one of the hardest things s/he'd ever do up until that point. In addition, in order to complete on time, hir parents also had to hire a tutor, and s/he enrolled in night classes.

Moving back home again wasn't as hard as leaving the little ones, but it wasn't easy. S/he found it hard to adjust to hir parent's rules again, especially after living on hir own for so long. S/he managed, and actually found the lack of responsibilities for food and shelter a little refreshing, and s/he even found that s/he was able to study better and more effectively in hir old den-room and in familiar surroundings.

It took a while, and there were a few bumps, scrapes, and bruises along the way, but with a lot of grace and mercy from hir deity and hir community – not to mention pray and support from hir family – s/he managed to graduate from veterinary school with honors, and a full D.V.M. Though a year or two “late”.

Learning from hir experiences in the previous years – good and bad – Vanth, now Doctor Vanth, came out of it a changed being, and with a whole new outlook on life. S/he was quickly recruited by the planetary space agency to care for and manage the health of its employees and explorers. Over time, Doctor Vanth was able to progress through the ranks of the agency. Soon s/he found hirself involved with the team to develop faster-than-light technology.

Hir contributions and care of the pilots earned hir the right to witness the first successful attempt to break the light barrier. Soon s/he was on the developmental team to assemble and create a medical department for a new space exploration organization and program. Soon after that s/he was assigned as the chief medical officer of the first truly deep-space exploration vessel, and first contact with the United Federation of Planets officially successfully established.

Dr. Farkas Vanth must have really impressed someone, for not long after that, someone in Starfleet sponsored hir, and invited hir to apply to Starfleet Academy. It took a few tries, maybe a few “favors” – and someone might have had to pull a few strings – but Vanth was finally accepted. Not long after, s/he graduated on time from the academy branch on Betazed and with a new M.D.

Barnum Prime, General Matriculation: Caninoids with the morph gene are born in their feral form. They grow and mature the same rate as the Canis lupus arctos . They are adopted individually to non-Caninoid families soon after taking solid food. They grow up and learn to socialize and appreciate diversity under this "apprentice family" until they reach a form of second puberty which is marked with a "first-change" into a bipedal form, when they return to their birth family, and enter primary school.
