800 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
[USS Ottawa] S1, E2: Empok Nor
Location: Sickbay, deck 16
Timeline: 05/14/2394, 1130 Hours
Harry walked back into the sickbay, he was feeling a tad better, not cause of the walk. He was feeling better over the advice that Bervag had just given. It was very strange to see Bervag in his daughters body, and his daughter in his body. He walked over to her. "You awake?" He asked, noticing she or rather his body was laying on the bio bed.
Kerja, through Harry's eyes, looked up at him. "Like I could sleep in this body. What did you eat today? Your stomach is making all kinds of noises and I feel like you drank about ten cups of coffee this morning." She smiled at him though as if teasing slightly.
Harry tried not to laugh, finding it strange he was not suffering any caffeine withdraws. But what she said was a little humerus. "Could have been that burrito I ate this morning, put a few extra JalapeƱo's in it." He suggested as his reason for his stomach being upset. He reached to grab his own hand, but he was trying to reach her. "It will pass."
"You feeling any better?" She asked, sitting up. "Did you have a good walk?" It was a stretch sometimes, making small talk. Kerja wasn't that great at it on a normal day and here she was in her father's body. She tried not to think about that. "Ready to continue the story?"
"Ya, but is this really helping you?" He asked, wondering if telling her how her parents met, would help her understand why he was not around.
"It's distracting me from our current predicament. So yes." She answered very much wanting him to continue.
"Eventually your Mom got fed up with me, she was a very fascinating person. But she was right, we kept going to places she wanted to go. But in reality, I was young and dumb, and my only hobbies back in those days included night clubs or the gym." He said, leaving out the part, the main reason to be in both places was to see the ladies in sexy outfits and to hit on them.
"Hmm," Kerja replied in Harry's voice. She almost hated to talk now because it wasn't the same sound that she normally made.
"I remember we talked and tried several holodeck programs, trying to find activities that did not include the gym or the bar, she was a great friend." He felt a moment of sadness that she left him, but it was instantly replaced with anger. She left him, and especially left him in the dark about Kerja. He tried to refocus his efforts on telling the story and leaving his feelings out of it.
"Okay. And obviously you ended up in bed together at some point and out I popped about seven months later, late for a Bajoran because of my half human genes that I got from you."
Harry was not sure why she was trying to skip the story, she asked how he felt about her mother. Or he assumed that was the question being asked of him by his daughter. He was not really fond of skipping to the end of the story. "Do you not want to hear the story?" He asked confused?
"Oh, there was more. Sorry," She made a zipping motion with her fingers across her lips. It was a very human gesture and in the human body she was in it probably didn't look as strange as it would if she'd had her long light brown hair, ridges on her nose and his hazel eyes.
"There is, but we don't have to tell it all in one night, so to answer your question. Yes you were conceived, but I do not know when, how long it took. Your Mom left for Bajor, never heard from her again. I tried to call her, when she left. You were born on Bajor according to your birth certificate." He said.
Kerja rolled over. "I'm going to try to sleep if I can. Tired." She mumbled so he wouldn't see the tears that were threatening to drop down her, no, his cheeks.
"Okay," he said as he covered up his own body with a blanket.
He sat next to her, thinking about Tera, and wondering how things could have been different if she would have just told him, he had a daughter. Now she laid on alien ship bio bed, with a guy she barely knew, a man that the doctors said was her father.
She was being put through a lot.
And she really had no time to adapt. He wanted to reach out to her, but this was not his body to be doing that with. He kept his distance but stayed close by in case she needed him.
