1,101 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: [USS Ottawa] S1, E2: Empok Nor
Location: Diplomatic Office
Timeline: 05/21/2394, 1100 Hrs

Dom was starting to become a little concerned for Sarah. Ever since she found out her husband was traitor and resigned for the senate, and re-joined Starfleet, she had been keeping herself locked up in her office. He decided to pay her a little visit. To check in with her. Dom wanted her to know, he had not forgotten about her. He was trying to give her time to adapt. But she needed to come out of her shell at some point.

Dom made his way in the office, and just walked inside her office, and took a seat. He was a little aggressive about it. Not really asking her, not really waiting for her to say, please have a seat Dom. He wanted Sarah to know he was in her office, and they were going to talk. This was a little more aggressive approach for him. But he was concerned for her.

As Dom walked in she watched him sit down next to her desk. She put the padd she was reading down. "Hello, captain, is there something I can do for you? Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea? Alcoholic? Food maybe?" She got up to go get him something. She waited a moment leaning on her desk.

"I'm good, but you know why I am here, Sarah." Said Dom in a monotone style voice, trying not to show his feelings in the matter show. He was in her office, doing a wellness check on her. He was a friend and he was also her commanding officer, and he needed to know if she was coping.

Sarah lowered herself back in her chair with a sigh. "I am perfectly fine. I just need some time to adjust that's all." She explained. "I'm just doing some reading, get my way around the ship again till there is something for me to do actually. Getting a colonel back isn't exactly a diplomatic mission and right now we are on shore leave."

"Not on shore leave yet Sarah, but soon. I'm taking the Ottawa to Risa. We have to make a quick stop at Empok Nor, I know not in the same direction, however this is a Starfleet vessel, and we have to listen to them, sometimes." He suggested with a grin on his face. He wanted Sarah to know a real shore leave was coming, and what better place than Risa!

She smiled, "Now Risa sounds interesting. I am sure the crew will love it and I am looking forward to it." She picked up the pad she was reading a second and then opened up a drawer to drop it in. "So when are we expected on Empok Nor?" She asked.

"In two days, I hope by then, you will be ready to leave your office and join me in meeting Captain Hood, the station commander?" He asked Sarah. He was trying to be respectful and give her time to heal and grieve, but this isolation was not helping that process, or so he thought.

Sarah got up from her chair and walked over to the replicator. "Ice water." She picked up the glass that had appeared and then looked to Dom as she took a sip and then said, "I love to meet Captain Hood. How about we have some dinner tonight? Maybe I could put your mind at ease about my mental state." She didn't like Dom worrying about her so much. She was fine. She just needed some time to herself, put things in perspective.

"I'll hold you to that Sarah." Said Dom. He paused for a moment and went on to say. "Dinner 1800 Hours, casual wear at Shenanigans?" Asked Dom, as he waited to see what she said.

Sarah shrugged a little and said, "Fine by me." She went to sit behind her desk again. "Anything else you needed?" She asked.

"Yes, any tips or suggestions on how to convince Ellie Sheppard to stay on the USS Ottawa?" Asked Dom, he was still at a loss on how to convince his first officer to stay. He knew that Ellie went through hell.

"The colonel?" She asked and shrugged. "I don't know her that well. For one thing, she is still on board, so there is a good chance she will stay. But have you thought about convincing her second in command, that nice Jazin fella. He seemed to enjoy himself, he might be inclined to stay, maybe if he stays, she stays as well. Worth to try," she said.

"I rather have your feedback, you choose to come back to Starfleet after leaving Paul." Said Dom, hoping that bring up the name of her soon to be ex husband, will help her answer his question.

"I am the worse person to be asking that now, Dom," said Sarah. "I am leaving someone, not staying. And like I said, I don't know her very well. You should ask someone who knows her. Maybe her brother, but commander Ijaan spend nine years with her in another reality. He is your best option."

"Perhaps your right." Said Dom, who was testing Sarah. Maybe she was not ready, despite her telling him he was. As a diplomatic officer, this was right up her alley. How to convince people to join or to stay, with knowing very little information. Dom, was concerned for her, and rightfully so. She was betrayed by her husband.

Sarah sighed. "Thanks for your concern, Dom. I just need little time, I will be back on my feet in no time. You know me, I am fighter." She smiled.

"I hope so, because I have big plans for you Commander, not at liberty to say what they are just yet. But I need you at your best." He said, hoping he sparked her curiosity.

Sarah nodded her interest somewhat piqued. "Pick me up at dinnertime and we shall see. Anything you can tell me is appreciated, she said winking.

"Dinner huh, we can do that. We have a lot of work ahead of us." Said Dom, thinking about the near future. He needed to talk to Sarah, but he also needed to talk to Ellie and Jazin as well.

"Well I have a lot of work ahead of me Sarah, I'll talk to you later." He stood up, and walked out the door. He had a lot of meetings to attend too. While the crew was resting, he had a reason to be on the station. He had neglected to tell his staff why they were really at the station.
