Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1, E3: Down Time
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 05/21/2394, 1400 Hours
Avril was very proud of the way she piloted the USS Juno during her last mission. She kept the crescent forces at bay long enough for the away team to rescue the prisoners, and she piloted the Juno, back to the planet to pick them up. She felt like she handed the crescent an ass whooping. She was just young enough not to realize, the scenario seemed a little too convenient.
“The Juno, has set a course for the wormhole Captain, we have engaged the quantum slipstream drive, we should arrive by to tomorrow.” Suggested Avril, with a small grin on her face. She could not wait to get off work, and call her parents. Let them know, their first mission, and they were already heroes!
"Thank you Miss Taylor," simply said Harry, noticing her voice was a little more cheerful than normal. Avril was a pretty happy person, but today she sounded more enthused. "It will be nice to get these folks back to Empok Nor, and to the safety of the Federation." Said Harry, as he continued to sit in his chair for the moment. He had just finished his luncheon with Xalanth. He felt the rescue was a little to easy, perhaps staged for their benefit. He was a little distracted, as precaution he walked over to Xalanth.
"Agreed Captain, the QSD is recharging so we will have to go the old fashion way, but we will get them there sir." Said Avril as she continued to man her station, however the Juno, was basically on autopilot at the moment. Nothing for her to do, but man the station, and respond to any situations that may arouse in the flight plan.
"Lieutenant Xalanth, I want a continuous scan of the area. I have a feeling this was to easy, since our lunch, I have this unsettling feeling. I rather be cautious then caught by surprise." Ordered Harry, as he looked over to the tactical station.
" Already on it sir." The lizard replied form tactical. He had already armed the weapons and was now scanning on a wide berth. If anyone one was out there he would find them.
Harry still felt a bit at odds about the whole thing. What was the Crescent up to. Where they really that dumb, or was this a trap. He believed in his heart this was a trap. He was debating about having a conversation with Orson De.
"Mister Xalanth have the kid brought up to the bridge, I want Orson brought the bridge, ASAP." Ordered Harry, not feeling right about this whole scenario.
The dragonain nodded as he tapped a few buttons. A few of his team would be bringing the kid up to the bridge. " He's on his way captain."
"Thank you, gonna question him again, we need answers." Suggested Harry, he really did not need to justify his reason, but he liked being transparent with his intentions.
Orson offered a half wave. "Hello, sirs." he said. "Anything the matter?"
"Welcome to the bridge, I need answers Mister Orson De. The rescue was to easy, I have a feeling we are walking inot a trap. You said you have defected, time to prove your loyalty, why did the Crescent allow the prisoners to be freed?" Asked Harry waiting to hear what Orson was going to say.
"Grandmother likes to play the long game. It did seem too easy myself. And i did hear i mentioned while there. All I can say is be mindful. I'm family but that doesnt mean I held her ear." Orson said. "I'm not denying anything." he replied further. "And I stand ready to help in any way I can."
"That's not useful information, has your grandmother ever allowed prisoners to escape before? How does she think? Is she shadowing us, does she typically plant a shadow agent in the survivors. I need details Mister Orson De." Demanded Harry, who had no doubt, that the kid was probably hesitant, on wanting to give up how his grandmother thought. Most kids knew how to manipulate their parents and grand parents. Surely he had figured her out.
"Never that I know of. She seems to like the thought of prisoners. Enjoys...interacting with them. As far as I've been exposed to, of course. Just because I share her name, doesnt mean she tells me anythng. All her subjects are equal, under her." Orson explained. " I can only tell you what I overhear from time to time, Captain Harry." Orson looked off to the side. "I have never hheard anything about "agents" being used, sir." he added. "But I wouldnt discount it."
"It's Captain Anderson. Not Captain Harry." Annoyingly said Harry, who felt like this was a trap. But he had no choice but to proceed. He sat in his chair for a moment. He started to think about how to limit their exposure and potential for a surprise attack.
"Lieutenant Xalanth, until we arrive at the Wormhole, keep the Juno, on Yellow Alert, continuous tactical sweeps of the surrounding areas on our flight path." Ordered Harry.
" On it sir." The lizard said as his fingers shot across his console as his eyes became fixed on the screen.
"Lieutenant Taylor, I want you to increase speed, maximum warp is authorized." Ordered Harry, he hoped he was paranoid, but he rather be safe than sorry.
"Aye captain." Said Avril, as she increased power. She felt that engines push the Juno faster. "WE can only hold this speed for 36 hours, we should arrive at the wormhole in 23 hours." Said Avril. She was not sure she liked the idea of pushing the engines hot for nearly a day. But the decision was the captain's.
Harry wanted to get out of harms way, and be back in the safety of the Federation. He wanted to make sure the prisoners were safe.
Avril wondered, did they really need to increase to maximum warp? There was no enemy on sensors. No indication that the enemy was even persuing them.
The USS Juno, proceeded at warp to her destination.
