Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1, E4: Empok Nor
Location: Translation Office
Timeline: 05/26/2394, 1530 Hours
Harry walked into the translation room, it was a secured area, he noticed her wearing her new teal uniform. "Teal looks good on you Pecia." Said Harry, as he closed the door behind him.
At the sound of the door opening behind her Pecia stabbed a gloved finger down at the console in front of her, terminating the open communications channel. Alexander Rowe's face winked away in an instant and the alien woman spun to face the captain. She knew it was Harry before seeing him. Besides herself, he was the only person on the ship with access to this room.
"I'll admit," she said, tugging at the collar for show, "it is a bit less comfortable than what I'm used." Pecia rose from the stool where she had been sitting and met the commanding officer in the middle of the room. "Good to see you again though, sir. What brings you to my little corner of the ship?"
"I have a new assignment for you." He said, wondering if she already knew. It seemed that intelligence always one step ahead of everyone. He wanted her to research information on Admiral Leyton, former Starfleet Officer now rumored to be a New Maquis Terrorist. He needed the information ready for tomorrow. When they departed Empok Nor and set a course back to the Gamma Quadrant.
Pecia smiled at him and crossed to one of the stations set to the starboard side of the room. "If its about the Crescent," she started as she accessed console and pulled up the file, "information is sparse. I do have a new asset in play in the Gamma Quadrant, though." Pecia snatched a PADD from the counter nearby and loaded her most recent report then handed it over to Harry.
"I definitely want that intel, but what information do you have on the New Maquis?" Asked Harry, he wanted to know if she had any information the last known whereabouts of Admiral Leyton. What did the intel community know?
"I've been looking into these New Maquis. On the side, of course," she said, switching the display to another file she'd been working on. "I ran into an old... acquaintance while we were docked at Empok Nor, and she mentioned them. Got my hackles up," Pecia confessed. "Do you think they're somehow related to the Crescent?"
"No I do not believe so, Captain Hood of Empok Nor, wants us to find Admiral Leyton, everyone's favorite traitor, and bring him to justice. However our primary task, is to seek out the Crescent, and learn more about the attack, and try to establish a reason, for why this happened. But at the moment I just want to know what information you have on Leyton?" Said Harry. His goal was the Crescent, but a Captain did give him a direct order, so he would look for the admiral on the side.
"Leyton..." she mused for a moment, putting a gloved finger to her chin. "I came across that name in some of the data I've been reviewing. Disgraced former admiral," she spun back to the console and keyed in a few quick commands. "I started compiling a dossier on him already."
"How much time do you need to compile the Dossier?" Asked Harry, hoping not much. But if she needed time, he could always come back in a few. He was hopeful, when she said she was already compiling it.
"Oh barely any," she said tapping away at the console again. "I have an algorithm, designed by a colleague," she turned back to Harry, "let's just give it a few minutes to run."
Pecia stood and made for the replicator. "Can I offer you anything while we wait, sir?"
"I would love a cup of coffee with irish cream, please." He said, as he walked over to her. She had placed the order for his coffee, he was thinking to himself, what information did Intelligence have on the renegade former disgraced admiral known as Leyton.
The alien woman retrieved their beverages from the replicator and returned to where the CO was waiting. "So, I met a Vorta," she said as she handed Harry his cup. "One Deep Space, a few days before I arrived at Empok Nor."
"A Vorta, they have not been seen in sometime. Was it by mistake or intentional?" He asked, wondering why a Vorta and an intelligence would meet.
Pecia sipped from her own mug, letting the spiciness of the tea wash over her tongue. "Rescued her actually, with some old friends from my more freewheeling days," she sat down on the stool and crossed her legs.
"Rescuing a Vorta?" He said, "Please go on." He said with a curious tone in his voice and body posture. But deep in his thoughts, he wondered why the Jem'Ha'Dar did not rescue her.
She smiled at the commodore. "It's a long story. The short version is, she'd grown disenchanted with life under the metaphorical boot of the Founders, and had gone walkabout in the Alpha Quadrant. But they Dominion wanted her back. They didn't get and now she works for us."
"She works for us? In what capacity?" He asked. Why was he not told of this? Or was this her way of saying, surprise you have a Vorta spy, now.
"Broadly speaking - Starfleet Intelligence," she admitted casually. "More specifically, you and me, since we're the only ones who'll be in the Gamma that knows she's working for the Federation."
"Let's keep this on a need to know basis. Maybe its best if we keep this from the senior staff for the moment. Let's see if she works out and helps span our knowledge of the Dominion. Since the war has ended, we have not heard much about the Dominion." Said Harry, fearing that his crew would think this was a bad idea. He knew it would be wise to learn as much they could from the Vorta. Use her to gain insight on the Dominion.
The console behind Pecia bleep-ed and she spun to face it, careful to hold the hot tea in her left hand steady. "Looks like the data's been collected into one handy file, sir." She picked up another PADD and after a few quick taps handed it off to the commodore. The she turned back to the monitor. "No firm location data for Leyton, I'm afraid. But," she swiped a few lines of data on the monitor and they highlighted themselves on the tablet in Harry's hand as well, "I'd say these are some probable places to start a search for him."
"Thank you Pecia, your awesome. As I said, lets keep this vorta collaborator, spy, what ever we want to call limited to us for the time being, until we know she is a valuable asset, I doubt the crew would be supportive." Ordered Harry to his Chief Intelligence Officer.
Pecia nodded, the tiny spines on her brow glinting slightly in the dim light of the room as she did. "Agreed, sir, and thank you. One we're back on the other side of the wormhole, I'll let you know what she has to offer." She put a hand out on the console as she stepped down from the stool. "As for Leyton, I'll see what I can do about narrowing down that list of possible locations."
"Thank you Miss Pecia, appreciate your assistance in this. I better take off, so it only appears I was making my rounds. Please notify me when you have narrowed down that list. Peyton has proven to be a resourceful man." Said Harry as he left her office.
