Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1, E5: Countdown
Location: Translation Office
Timeline: 06/01/2394, 1315 Hours
Harry walked into the translation room, and sealed the doors. He looked with pleading and desperate eyes to Pecia. "Have you heard about the SS Kiyoko?" Asked Harry, wondering if news reached her that his daughter was just kidnapped by pirates. He assumed the pirates were taking her to the Crescent.
While not strictly eavesdropping, Pecia had been passively monitoring the activity on the bridge through a variety of data feeds on monitors scattered throughout her private sanctum. When they had encountered the freighter she had moved to one of the senor monitors and begun actively scanning the data that was being fed to the bridge stations. She had also begun her own investigation of the ship, including downloading cargo and passenger info. She had likely known about Kerja's absence even before it had been relayed to the captain. Given the situation, she had expected the captain to arrive sooner rather than later and had already taken steps to prepare.
"Harry, I am so sorry," compassion practically dripped from her voice as she crossed the room and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"I need you to work your magic." He said, as he walked a little closer to her position. It was nice of Pecia to show concern. She was still new to the crew, and he was not sure if she was going to have empathy for his situation.
"Whatever you need," she replied and turned around, leading the captain to a station at the back of the translation room. "Can I get you anything? Coffee, tea, whiskey...?" she asked crossing to the replicactor.
"Coffee with irish cream, would be great." He said as he followed her into the room. "I need all the information you have on the Gilan Pirate Guild." Harry said, taking a sip of his coffee. He savored the smell for a moment.
Pecia grabbed a PADD from the top of the monitor and handed it over to the captain. "That's the initial download on the Gillian Pirate Guild," she said. "I've only had a short while, and I've got calls out to more than a couple of my contacts... including our Vorta friend."
"The admiral is still a priority target, but the immediate threat is this Gilan pirate guild, I have a feeling that the Crescent hired them." Harry said as he thought for a moment, on where they would take his daughter. "Do you have any tracking data on typical routes the Gilan Pirates Guild would travel once in the GQ?" He asked, hoping that intelligence tracked their movements.
Pecia nodded, "Some, already in the report there." She tapped a button the console and a map of the immediate vicinity of the Gamma Quadrant side of the Bajoran Wormhole was displayed on a large wall monitor. Several routes were highlight in red. "Based on encounters with the guild, and sightings of their ships, these are the most common projected routes the pirates use in the region."
"Is the pirate ship following any of those routes?" Harry asked, as he looked on eagerly. The USS Juno would be going through the wormhole. He wanted to intercept the pirates as soon as possible.
"This one," she pointed at one of the pathways on the left side of the screen, "does bring them awfully close to Crescent territory. No definitive links between the Crescent and the guild yet. I'm still working though."
"Can you transfer this data to the helm station, I will order Miss Taylor to adjust our course." Harry said, wondering how long the Crescent have been working with the pirates. And vice versa, how long the pirates have been working with the crescents. Were the pirates the ones that told the Crescent about the New Bajor Colony?
Harry noticed she nodded in agreement. He then thought about Admiral Leyton. "Any updates on everyone's favorite renegade admiral?" Harry asked. He was happy that Pecia found a lead to the pirates. They still had their primary mission to complete as well.
The alien woman took another PADD from the top of the workstation and offered it to Harry. "Since you mentioned him," she started as Harry took the tablet, "I've had some luck on the Leyton front. Recent sighting of the former admiral in the Delof system. Uninhabited star system located between Tzenkethi and Breen territory. The Ferengi maintain a small trading outpost there, in orbit of Delof VIII. Leyton was spotted there by an SI asset. Obviously he was buying, selling, or trading. Our operative wasn't able to learn what though."
"Back in the Alpha Quadrant, he came to the GQ for a reason, any ideas why?" Harry asked, hoping intelligence would share any speculation, or facts they had on his motive for coming to the GQ.
"Like Starfleet ships, the New Maquis vessels require dilithium as fuel. There aren't a lot of places in this neck of the woods with untended dilithium deposits. Even if he could find a local patch, Leyton's people don't have the resources or manpower for a full scale mining operation. After studying the intel and reports, I'm convinced that he's just brokered a deal to keep his ships fueled with GQ dilithium," Pecia explained her working theory for the former admiral's movements.
"We should attempt to track down their source in the GQ when we head back." Harry said, as he walked over to the exit. "I'm not going to keep you distracted, report to me when you have a positive lead for us to follow. Thank you Percia, for this intel." He said in closing and with a big grin.
