Quinn stepped out of the airlock after the shuttle dropped her and others off at the New Haven Star Base, her carry-all was packed full with clothes, weapons, a few books that were not replicated and a few other odds and ends that she didn't want to leave in storage. Her hair was currently dyed a vivid blue hue, was pulled into a tight braid that trailed down her back; the very end of it curling up in numerous curls. She checked with the deck officer on whom the USS Ottawa Chief of Security was and asked if they were available.
K'Loth was busy in his office when his computer chimmed. He opened it and read that a new officer had just arrived. 'Hm....interesting' he thought. "Lt. Locke, Cmdr. K'Loth here, would you be so kind to report to my office asap." he said into his combadge.
Quinn had only just started in getting directions to find the Chief of Security of the Ottawa, at the summons over the com-badge she replied back, "Will be there in about five minutes if I don't get lost on this Star base." She had never been here before wasn't familiar with the layout. Though she was more than willing to have a crash course in finding important places, quickly.
"Lt. Monroe, make sure the brig's security fields are up to par. I won't stand for inept system failures," K'Loth said.
"Understood sir. Is there anything else I can do at the moment?" Lt. Monroe asked.
"No Lt. Monroe, but should you see a wandering new face headed this way, please steer them to me." K'Loth smirked.
Monroe nodded as he left the brig. He was not really watching where he was going and collided with another officer in the corridor. "Oofffff!..." and tumbled on top of her. "Jumping gee whiz, I am so sorry." he said as he scrambled off her and helped her up. Monroe brushed her off and handed her the PADD she was carrying.
Quinn was used to folks not seeing her right off the bat but it had been a while since someone taller than her mere 4'11" frame had actually tripped over and landed on her. It was pretty funny really, she gave the flustered Lt a reassuring smile, "No harm done, is the Chief of Security for the Ottawa that way?" she pointed to the direction he had come from, where she had been intending to follow the path until the collision.
"Oh.....your looking for the boss........down the corridor, third door on the left. Thats his office, it almost attaches itself to the brig," Monroe said.
K'Loth had just stepped out the door of his office in time to see Morrison talking with the new officer. "Um....Lt. Quinn, you looking for me?" he said pleasantly.
Quinn looked from Monroe whom she guessed was about 5'10" in height to the taller Klingon looking male, he was by her best estimate at least 6 feet tall. "It's Lieutenant Locke actually, my first name is Quinn which you're more than welcome to call me if that's what you feel like." She smiled in thanks at Monroe and started walking closer towards her new boss, very amused, by the current situation. It could go any direction now but at the least it started somewhat funny definitely not a standard start of checking in with a Department head.
"Ah... my error Lt. Locke. Please come, sit and take a load off. Drink? Something to eat? Help yourself," K'Loth said smiling as he lead her into his office.
Quinn was very surprised, usually when she came to meet a new department head, they were all business, took her transfer, told her, her shift and duties and reminded her to get all her evaluations done before her next shift. She gave a cheeky grin as she set down her carry all beside the chair, across from his desk. "I am not used to such a welcome," Quinn didn't like eating or drinking in front of others unless they were joining in, it felt rude even if was an invitation.
"Don't be bashful Lt. Locke", K'Loth said, getting a racktijino and a piece of blood pie, "Help yourself, I find that being open in my meeting new officers helps them adjust to how I am and how I do things. Some new officers come in here thinking that I am a gruff and tough person but I am just the opposite. I am only rough when it comes to dicipline and following orders, other than that I am pretty flexible", K'Loth said eating the blood pie.
Quinn grinned cheekily as she finally caved to his invitation, she got herself a plate of spicy redbat wings and a large peppermint flavored hot chocolate, as she sat down she eyed her new boss a moment before she spoke up, "I thank you for your hospitality," Quinn paused for a moment, "I might not always stick to all the rules but I will never let you down while doing my part around security be it standing watch or patrol or what have you. I might annoy you with how I write my reports too." Only fair to give him some warning he had been very pleasant welcoming so far. Quinn lowered her gaze as she bit into one of the spicy redbat wings, they were very good but she was admittedly spoiled by her friend's home version, the replicator couldn't complete with homemade real food. Not unless someone got really good with the program for the recipes. After she finished her first wing she took a sip from the peppermint flavored hot chocolate, it was perfectly done she made a very small delighted noise of enjoyment at the discovery.
" I take it that you are comfortable with your quarters. Sorry we couldn't do better on that point. We try to keep our security people as close to the brig and security office", K'Loth asked.
Quinn raised her blue hued brows slightly, she shook her head gently, "Sorry but I hadn't seen my quarters yet, otherwise I would have left my carry-all in them." She gave a cheeky grin, "As long as whomever my new roommate ends up being doesn't have a after shift smoking habit, we should be able to get along."
"Oh, you haven't seen them yet? I do appologize for that. I can arrange for you to have a non smoking room mate if you prefer Lt. Locke", K'Loth said calmly.
"No worries, but yes a non smoking room mate would be greatly appreciated," Quinn retorted lightly, though if she ever got lucky enough to not even end up with a roommate, for once; she would be beyond happy. Though that was unlikely at least as fast as her luck rate ran rather. "Most anything else I can deal with pretty easy." Quinn had only one incident where she had actually pleaded for a new roommate, the Bolian girl whom she'd been paired up with had three armored arachnids as pets, she had made it only one day. Quinn surpressed a shudder at the memory, it wasn't funny though her roommate had thought it hilarious, Quinn still had nightmares about the evening those creepy crawlers escaped their enclosure.
"Fine then, I will see to it that your roommate is a non smoker. Is there anything else I can help you with", K'Loth asked.
Quinn shook her head softly, "Other than letting me know what shift I am on or what you want me to help out with no." She ate another redbat wing carefully, and once she finished chewing she took another sip from her cup of peppermint hot chocolate.
"For now I will assign you to alpha shift, but if I need you for another shift be prepared to switch unless there is an emergency which will I will pull all three shifts at the same time. Is that understood Lt. Locke?", K'Loth asked.
"Crystal clear, do you want help with the paper work or have you already got someone pegged to help on that?" Quinn replied, getting the impression she had somehow annoyed him already but had no idea what she had done. Maybe she shouldn't have accepted his invitation to get some food after all.
"No, that is not necessary. I have my pencil pusher and he will do that", he said laughing. Now with that taken care of, how about a tour of where you will be patroling? I mean if you care to now," K'Loth asked.
Quinn nodded her head, "Sounds great to me, always nice to get a heads up on the patrol zones." Plus she could check it out for possible issues.
"Great, mind if I call you Quinn? It sounds better that way besides I am informal with my people", K'Loth said as he got up motioning for her to join him as he headed for the door.
Quinn smiled brightly, "I don't mind a bit actually prefer it myself." She got up in a smooth fluid motion deposited her unfinished food to the replicator to recycle, as it wrred she grabbed her carry-all and followed him out the doorway. It was so much easier to answer to her own name with her given or family name over her rank since that trended to change. She had the feeling she was actually going to enjoy being part of the security team at least enough to behave a while before she got the urge to play a prank on anyone.
"Well, Quinn shall we go into the world of Station Security?", K'Loth said, walking on to the promemnade. "The station is still undergoing refit and repairs but for the most part it is quiet. Occassionally a fight breaks out in the bar or in some shop usually about money or an exchange of goods. However when there are several trading ships docking all at once it can be hectic and sometimes physical", he added. Walking past several shops, a small group of civilians had gathered near one of the new shops that had just opened. It looked like a small argument was on the verge of becoming a problem. "Quinn your first duty will be to mediate and disperse the crowd", K'Loth said walking over to the group.
"What seems to be the problem here?", K'Loth asked.
"Um....well this man thinks he can open his shop here without asking the Shoppers Federation Committie for permission. His shop will put all of us out of business", the dress shop man said.
"Well if you think it will harm your trade, why not close all your shops for one day and go to the Shoppers Federation Committe and ask for help in settling this. I think it would be a better choice rather than I throww you all in the brig for harassing this poor man.....agreed?", K'Loth implied.
They looked at each other and finally agreed and went back to their respective shops and close for the day. Smiling, K'Loth nodded in acknowledgement as they filed past him.
"See that is how we difuse the situation easily. But of course not everything goes according to plan and then you have to use force and reinforcements'" K'Loth said looking at Quinn.
"Shall we continue or do you think you can handle the rest on your own", K'Loth said to Quinn.
Quinn grinned cheekily as she looked up at her new Boss, "Well you did promise a tour and chance to drop off my gear but if you want me to go wandering around and find my way on my own, challenge accepted."
"I will give you a fast tour while we head to your quarters. How does that sound Quinn?", K'Loth asked chuckling.
After the tour Quinn got word of yet another transfer and sent a note of apologies to K'loth, "It was a pleasure meeting you. Hope my replacement is better at keeping up with you!"
