Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1E2: Encounter in the Abyss
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 05/16/2394, 1400 Hours
Lieutenant T'San was preparing her office. It would be more quiet then out in sickbay for the mind meld with Xalanth. She blinded the windows and told her secretary and the computer not to be disturbed until further notice or in absolute emergencies. Appointed one of her doctors to take lead of sickbay for the time being.
She sat down at her desk and waited for Xalanth and T'Para to arrive.
It wasn't long before Xalanth stepped through the doors. He was clearly uncomfortable though he still made his way to T'San office. Tapping the comms panel he politely said. " T'San I'm here for my appointment."
"Come in," said T'San. She looked at the pair walked in. "Please sit down, make yourself comfortable." She got up and sat across from Xalanth. "Lieutenant I can understand your discomfort, if at anytime you wish to stop the procedure, please let me know."
" I hope you know what you're getting into doctor. My head is a very messed up place. " The lizard said as he sat down on the floor.
"I will begin now." T'San never done this with a Dragonian before, considering she never met any of his kind. She put her hands on his face and closed her eyes. "My mind to your mind, your thoughts to mine. Our minds are merged, our minds are one."
A flood of images met the Vulcans mind as the drgaonians mind linked to her own. Images of blood covered machines seemingly burning the sky flashed quickly before a jumble of images of his life stabilised into a solid memory. " Sorry about that." He said politely.
"It's ok, lieutenant." T'San said. "Just try to focus."
The memories stabilised as the image started. The lizard was walking down the corridor of one of the federations older ships. He was unsettled his mind thinking of his mate and daughters. His mind snapped as his combadge bleeped. =^= Security to cargo ba.... =^= it crackled before ending abruptly.
The lizard took of at a run as he ran towards the cargo bay.
"What's going on, Lieutenant?" T'San followed the lizard.
" I was on patrol on the ship. A away team had returned from the planets moon. They found some artefacts in an ancient crashed derelict." Xalanth responded as he ran in the memory. The cargo bay door was open with an injured engineer lying face down in the doorway. Blood was forming around him as Xalanth grabbed his arm and pulled him from the doorway. =^= Xalanth to medical we have injured down here. =^= He said checking the man's pulse his hand phaser still aiming into the dark cargobay. The channel crackled as nothing came through. Something shot out of the darkness barely missing the dragonian. With no other choice, he fired back into the darkness his phaser lighting up a small group of officers. They look possed with glowing red eyes, blood drooling from their mouths all wearing a strange white uniform. " What the hell..." The lizard said as he rolled for cover behind one of the rows of cargo.
T'San followed him and sat down next to him. "What's happening?" She looked around. She sensed that something was going wrong here, but she wasn't sure yet what.
" They accidentally activated the relic. Well, the captain did not them. The collective of dark wasn't particularly bothered about appearing nic....." the lizard had said before pausing. He wheeled around and fired his phaser catching one of the assimilated crew in the chest as she jumped down from atop one of the pallets. With his reflexes honed by years of training, he welled around and fired as two of them broke cover and charged at him. They both dropped as another an andorian fired a green energy blast from a growth coming from her arm. It barely missed as he ran for the door. As he dived for the cargo bay door he felt a surging pain shooting through his side. He collapsed to the ground as his mind went black.
" That's all I can remember doctor. Don't know what happened after that till T'para stabbed a sword through my chest. From what we we're able to get they resurrected me and messed up my DNA with that curse. " The lizard replied as his mind just filled with a blackness.
T'San nodded. "Maybe we should focus on those possessed officers. Did you notice anything about them?" T'San asked, hoping to get the brain to work and unleash something.
The dragons mind zipped back to the few clear images he had seen. " Nasty looking things aren't they. The dark collective as they called themselves believed in simply taking over people by force while the collective of light believed in trickery and subversion to take over. It's what caused them to start fighting each other. " The lizard responded as he moved closer to them.
" If i remember correctly the blood in their mouths is from biting their lips. The collective switched off what it deemed ineffective brain functions to make them better fighters. " He paused looking around at the memories of his former crewmen. " I always wondered where the captain was. I didn't see him down here."
"Was he suppose to be there?" T'San asked. Every bit of detail could help her in her research. And the fact that the two collectives operated differently was significant for her.
" Yeah, he'd come down to meet the away team." The dragonian said as he reached the borders of where he could remember his memory turning into a black fog. " Shall we continue when i was able to free myself from their control?"
"Carry on," said T'San as she made mental notes.
The dragonian did so, but not before turning to look at the vulcan. " This will hurt so brace yourself." He said as he let his memory move forward.
As he felt the world fade away a sudden burst of pain stabbed through his chest. He could remember the feeling of his bones and organs rupturing as his head felt like it was exploding. His eyes opened as he looked upon the face of his mate. She had a look of complete horror on her face as she looked in disbelief at what she'd done and the blood on her hands.
He could hear her heavy breathing as he painfully pulled himself up against the wall. " Hey, pretty girl nice outfit." He said jokily looking at her in the light clans uniform of a leotard, over knee-high boots and gloves all with light blue trim. The source of his pain was obvious from the alien sword that was rammed through his chest. " What the hell.." he mumbled as the hybrid gave a smile of relief on her face as she dropped down next to him. " Your all right." She said weakly as she hugged him tightly. " What the hell's going on. " He blurted out
" It's a long story. We need to get you to the medbay." She said as she helped him up. It was painful for him to stand up and he needed to lean heavily on her. His whole body felt like it was on fire as they limped through the ship. Assimilated members of the crew were fighting each other through the corridors making the journey to medbay hazardous to both of them.
" I didn't realise part of the pain i was feeling was the new alterations they made to my DNA." the lizard said before realizing he'd forgotten something. " Ah yes how we got free. Some of the free crew and the EMH were able to come up with something that could jam and kick people from the collective. T'para went to find me because she knew how dangerous i could be. To bad the drug worked slower on me than the other crew. One more reason to hate the collectives. I could have killed my mate." He said bitterly.
T'San let go of the Dragonian. She looked to him. "That was quite an ordeal you've been through. I think I have enough from you. But one more thing. The drugs the survivors created, is that the same drugs that's holding the genetic alterations, or is that something they created at Starfleet medical?"
" Two different things. You'll have to ask the heads of medical about the drug. I'm sorry for putting you through this doctor. I know the lessons at medical school won't have covered this. " He said politely as he stood up.
"It's quite alright, Lieutenant, I think I can find that info in the files they send me." T'San nodded. "As a Vulcan I can handle a lot more then you realize. And I am glad to help, both of you."
