767 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: [USS Shanghai] S1, E6: The Last Ride
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: 06/06/2394, 1500 Hours

Thorrin was unsure what the Shanghai had in store for him. But he knew that protocol should always be observed. First he had to check in and see his new Captain. With any luck this Captain and everyone on the ship would simply leave him be. Thorrin was the only El Aurian who hated being a listener and listening. He looked around the Bridge as he entered and noted the Ops console. He also noted that the Captain was not on the bridge. After all of the years that he has spent in Starfleet. Thorrin knew that most Captain's spent their time in the Ready Room. So he went over there and rang the door chime. Before he received an answer he straightened his uniform.

It had been a few days, and Harry felt like hurting someone. His debriefing with Starfleet was not going as well as he he would have hoped. Harry was not happy that they were loosing the USS Juno. He just told the crew, they were transferring to the USS Shanghai. A decision he was happy and sad for.

He felt like he was abandoning the USS Juno, but she was going to be out of commission for over 8 months. Captain Anderson had a mission to complete. And he needed a starship, that was ready to go. And the USS Shanghai was ready to depart. Harry heard the intercom buzz.

"ENTER." He yelled out, as he continued to pack up his gear from the office. He was not expecting a new officer. He assumed Bervag was stopping by, to offer assistance or give a status update.

Thorrin walked into the Ready Room and took a brief look around. He was still getting used to the surroundings of this new ship. He brought himself to attention in front of the desk. "Lieutenant Thorrin reporting as ordered sir. Permission to come aboard?"

"Granted, but we will not be here long, some of the crew has already boarded the Shanghai, I'm just packing up my office Lieutenant. Sorry we are meeting under these circumstances. But I needed you right away on the Shanghai. She is fresh off the assembly line, half of the systems are not working, the other half are offline. Moving aboard is proving to be a challenge. I need the ship ready to go in four days." Started off Harry, as he looked to Thorrin to see how he was reacting to the news. He had four days to get all key systems operational.

"Four days should not be a problem, so long as permission is granted to run round the clock crews and diagnostics. Have there been any specific issues reported thus far. Issues that I should put high in the priority list. It would also help to know the nature of our mission." Thorrin was surprised that the Captain went straight to business, he liked it but was surprised nonetheless.

"Sorry for the short turnaround we are meeting the Dragonian Delegation next week, we have to launch in four days. Pull whatever resources you need to make this deadline. The crew will understand, and so will our first officer." Said Harry, wondering how Xalanth was doing with all of this news. Moving from one ship to another , relocating his family from one to ship to another, and preparing for the Dragonian Delegation. At the moment though, he needed to keep his attention on Thorrin.

Thorrin could tell that the Captain had other things on his mind. It did not take a listener to read that body language. However, he knew that Anderson would open up in his own time, they always did. "Well sir if that is all it seems that I have my work cut out for me." He added a small smile after he spoke.

"That's an understatement. I know from reading your file, that you are up for the task. After we are settled in, I'll buy you a beer." He said, as a form of expression. He knew Starfleet did not believe in currency. And their was no need to purchase beer on a federation starship.

"Sir you make it a nice glass of amontillado or absinthe and you have yourself a deal." He smiled broadly after he spoke. The smile was both for the notion that he could actually get along with this Captain, and that he had not had a glass of good absinthe in a very long time.

"I will order a case, before we leave dock." Said Harry, as the scene starts to fade. With the two men talking.
