Mission: [JM USS Shanghai] S1, E7: The Dragonian Code
Location: Engineering
Timeline: MD001 1530

Kerja stepped off the transporter platform and walked out of the transporter room. She was with her arms crossed and her head down. Her eyes were wet with tears. And she was so distraught she had no clue where she was going she walked in to Engineering.

She felt alone now more then ever with her mom in sickbay and her father on the planet. Hell everyone she cared about was there. She really needed someone to talk to. Or just someone that was there for her.

Thorrin left the bridge and headed for engineering for two reasons. The first and most important was that he did not like the way the power kept fluctuating as it came out of the core and dispersed to the systems, and as the old saying went if you wanted something done right... The second reason was simply put to get away from the bridge and get something to do. Since the planet came into orbit all Thorrin had to do was sit in the blasted command chair and wait.

He had finally settled in to what was going to be a great repair session. He had his music ready to go and all the tools laid out just in front of the access panel. Nothing could tear the smile off the Ops Chief's face, that is until something did. In walked one of the Captain's daughters and she had been crying. Thorrin let out a deep sigh through his nose and rolled his eyes. "Is there something that I can do for you Ms Kerja."

Kerja looked up and scratched her head as she saw where she was. She blinked. "I'm sorry, sir, I think I took a wrong turn somewhere. I-I hope I didn't disturb you with you work." Her eyes were still wet and swollen from crying earlier in the transporter room.

"No disturbance. Are you okay? Do you need some assistance? You seem rather upset." It did not take a listener to realize that the girl was upset. As much as it pained Thorrin to be the stereotype of his race, in the case of the young woman he had to make an exception.

Kerja swallowed away an upcoming cry session again. She was scared down at the planet. But having no one to protect her felt more horrible compared to what she had seen down the planet. Her mother was in sickbay she knew she could rely on, but how in the world could she have thought that the one everyone told her was her father could do that. She may have hoped. She shivered. She wasn't sure why she started to talk to him, but somehow he made her feel she had to.

"Something happened down on the planet. My mother is in sickbay, I am so scared and alone. I don't want to be here anymore." She started to cry. With here she meant on the Shanghai, not the planet, but the ship. Everyone was so nice with her, but her father ignored ever since she got back on and with her mother in sickbay, she really felt alone.

Thorrin exhaled sharply through his nose, he wanted to get to the work on the power distribution. But he was the senior officer, and sometimes that meant dealing with situations like this one. "Why would you not want to be home?" Thorrin asked with a cock of his eyebrow. "The Shanghai is your home, it is where your mother is and your father. It is where you have many aunts and uncles from all over the galaxy. There aren't many who get to grow up in an environment such as this. Take it from someone who has lived an extensive amount of time on starships." He knelt down so he could speak with her eye to eye. Thorrin knew that the best way to get through to a young person was to treat them like an adult.

Kerja took a deep breath. She could feel her heart beating. "My father...I hate him. My mom is in sickbay, I can't talk to her. And Charlena is really nice, I can talk to her. But she is more like a big sister than a parent. I need a parent right now. My father send me back here. I am all alone now. I don't know what to do." She was really upset and confused.

Thorrin raised children he had too many to count. If she wanted a dad then, a dad she would get. He took a mental note to speak with the Captain privately about spending time with his daughter. Despite the anger the El Aurian rather like children. "Very well come let's go check on your mom and get some answers." He extended his hand to take hers, and motioned for a member of the engineering team to take over at the power disto.

Kerja took his hand. And together they walked to sickbay.

As the doors to sickbay open, she felt something almost squeeze her throat. She knew what she was going to find there. She had been here many times. Feeling Thorrin's hand in hers she calmed down a bit. She looked to her mother laying on the biobed. She let go of his hand and walked to the bed. "Never told me about my father, I found out because she was kidnapped and I needed someone to take care of me. And then she decided for me I was going back with her to Bajor." She took a deep breath. "I was angry with her, and then this happened. Why?"

Thorrin looked down at the girl and his face said all the words for him. He was going to get to the bottom of this. As he turned to one of the Nurses "Nurse Report what is the status of Lieutenant Aanyo?" As the senior command officer he had business to know what was going on with the Bajoran woman.

Nurse Jody was on duty that time. She took up the padd with Aanyo's stats and then said, "Lieutenant Aanyo is in a coma. Her injuries are very severe. Both doctor T'San and doctor T'Pare preformed surgeries on her, it is all they could do. Now all we can do is wait. She is a fighter, but right now she needs to wake up if she wants to recover." She handed him the padd. "It's all there. Anything else I can help you with, sir?"

Thorrin looked down at the Bajoran woman and then glanced down at Kerja. One could see the family resemblance. He found himself wondering if it were him in a coma would his children be acting the same as this young lady. "Yes, do we know what had caused this coma?"

Jody took Thorrin aside for a moment. "Look, sir, the girl was there. Lieutenant Aanyo was beaten up while she was protecting her daughter. The medical report says she has lot of internal injuries, but there is something else. It's her brain. I have never seen such damage without trauma to the head. I am not sure what happened there, but it's like she was beaten up from the inside out. The doctors don't admit it, but they never seen anything like that before either. Whatever is going on, if this is what our enemy can do, we should be worried."

Thorrin cocked an eyebrow. "Well as the old detective would say the game is afoot. Put a copy of the Lieutenant's latest brain scans on a PADD for me. Also get me any Vulcan officer that is available and have them contact me on the bridge. I have an idea but first I must check with security."

Thorrin issued the orders to the nurse and then looked down at Kerja. "I need you to speak to a counselor and tell them everything that you saw. It could be the only way to help your mother and get whoever did this. Do you understand?" He spoke to her in calm even tones, he was always told that if you treat a child like an adult you will get more from them.

Kerja looked to Thorrin with wide red eyes and nodded. "I...understand." She never talked to a counselor. She was a bit scared. But she felt like Thorrin was doing more for her mother then her father was at the moment.

The nurse came back with a padd and handed it to Thorrin. "I have send word to Commander T'San, she is the lead medical officer on the lieutenants case. She will be coming to meet you on the bridge, sir."

"Excellent..." Thorrin said with a smirk it was the El Aurian in him and he could not help it. People just wanted to get things done for him. "If you would not mind having one of the Ship's Counselors talk to Kerja here. With any luck by the time they are done we will have a plan of action. Thank you for your help Nurse Jody, please keep me informed of the Lieutenant's condition. "

Thorrin turned to Kerja "You will remain here with the medical staff. A Counselor will come speak with you shortly. When you are done you can come find me and we will compare notes. Okay with you Watson?" He couldn't resist one final reference to the great Sherlock Holmes, and once more the old man did not wait for an answer from the young lady. He left Sick Bay almost as abruptly as he arrived and as he walked through the door he said "As you were..." almost as an after thought.
