Mission: [ USS Shanghai] S1E8 Light of the past.
Location: Shanghai ready room

Xalanth sighed to himself as he placed few other items into the box. Cleaning out the ready room was something he never thought he be doing. Picking up a picture from the desk his mind turned to the girl in said picture. Had the admiralty made her the offer yet he wondered to himself?

Tapping his combage he asked " Kerja Aanyo can you please come to the ready room. I'm collecting together some of your dad's belongings and I'd like to know if there's anything you want to keep."

Kerja was in her dad's room putting stuff in boxes as well. For the past months it has been her home, only the past weeks she has been in different quarters. It felt weird doing this. She hardly new the man, and she tried real hard to connect with him. Specially when she thought she had lost her mother. And it wasn't like he died or something, but seeing the mission he was on he might as well.

Kerja tapped her badge when Xalanth contacted her. "Commander, I will be there shortly." She looked to the boxes scattered in the room. It was the captain's quarters, she didn't know if the Commander and his family would be going in here. But she heard they'd taken T'San's old quarters. There was more room for the captain and his family there. She wondered who would take the captain's quarters. With her father gone, she couldn't stay here. Maybe Commander Thorrin or Major Dilucca.

She walked out of the room to make her way to the captain's ready room. As she reached it she pressed the chime and waited for Xalanth to let her in.

Xalanth gave a weak smile as he opened the door. " I'm sorry about all this I can't even begin to imagine what's it's like with your dad being reassigned. I have some of his stuff in the boxes on the desk just got to box up the stuff on the bookshelf. " The lizard said calmly and as fatherly as he could do his voice.

Kerja walked to the box. She took the framed picture of her out of the box. He tried his best to be a father, and despite not having to know her for so long, he still loved her no matter what. She swallowed as she got a little emotional. She sighed and said, "It is alright, captain." She said as she realized she had been addressing him wrong. "I think most of this stuff should be going to storage anyways. I will keep the frame." She looked to it again.

" Well, most of it's going back to the fleets warehouse on mars so if you miss anything else they can pull it out of storage," Xalanth said trying his best, but even with two girls of his own, he had no experience like this. " Have the fleet command talked to you about the offer?" He said hopefully trying to change the subject.

"You mean the sponsor program as a cadet officer?" She nodded. "They have, I accepted. Now that my mother is awake and in this condition I need to be with her. She has been assigned to the colony's medical facility. There isn't much I can do. I requested to be on the star base, but if you wish me to stay, I would stay of course."

"I hadn't heard about your mother and I'm happy she's awake. I'd like you to stay with us through the choice is up to you." The lizard said warmly.

"Like I said, I can't do much for my mother right now." Kerja said, "I would like to work on the Shanghai with you, sir. This is the first ship I have known since meeting my father. I also like Major Dilucca and Commander Thorrin. They were the ones sticking up for me when my mother was in sickbay. I do like Commander T'San and Captain Bers, if it's alright I will maybe do a little of both. So I will have periods where I can be there for my mom when I am on the base, if that is alright with you, sir?" She understood that when she would join the academy she wouldn't have a choice to where she would be send. When the time she would be away from her mother a lot. This way she could get used to it.

The dragonain gave the human an affectionate pat on the shoulder. " That's fine cadet. If you want i'll have engineering convert one of the enlisted room for you so you can have some space away from the rest of the crew."

Kerja smiled. "Thank you, captain, but why would I want to be away from the crew? I have no grievance with any of them, sir." She thought a moment and then said, "Captain, you think Major Dilucca would mind if come live with her? Her marine routine is just what I need right now."

" You'd have to ask her, but i don't see why she wound't allow it. " The captain said with a grin.

"I will ask, thank you, captain." She looked around the office. "Well, if that is all, I will go back to finish my dad's quarters. I will get dressed in my uniform and I will join you on the bridge shortly," She said.

" That's all cadet. Dismissed. " Xalanth said with a warm smile on his reptilian face.
