((OOC: BUMP! Vanth is back. Is this post ready to be... well... posted?))
Daniella got up from her desk and lead the way out of the office. “I would like to show you to sickbay first. I believe my husband, Commander Robert Williams, is there now with our daughter. My husband is a medical doctor, but he will be the Chief Science Officer of this command.” She smiled. “How are you with children, doctor?”
Doctor Vanth followed hir CO out of the Ready Room. S/he should have figured they’d be starting their tour off in sickbay. S/he might’ve liked to get to know the ship a little better in case of an emergency, but s/he didn’t say anything. “Some youth are fine, I guess. I have two pups, they’ll be nine later this year. I regret not being able to have them closer to me. I’ve missed getting to see them grow. They should be experiencing their first change soon.
“Oh,” Daniella replied. “How come you don’t have your pups with you here. The Saigon maybe small, but I am sure there is room for them here.” Daniella offered as they walked to sickbay. “I have my family on board as well. Along with my husband, my children. Kimberly, Anthony and our adopted Vulcan child T'Rani. As the Chief Medical Officer, you will also be responsible for their health as well.”
Vanth sighed forlorn “They are all the way on Vulcan with their paternal grandparents. They are supposed to be experiencing other non-Caninoid cultures and life-styles. It is one of the ways so many species of Beastinoids on one small planet have gotten along with no war and very little conflict for millennia. Although, I suppose they could have spent enough time with them.” S/he perked up again, hir tail wagging cheerfully again. “Their father can’t really object; The U.S.S. Hope is all the way out in the Inconnu Expanse.” Then something accrued to Vanth and hir tail drooped. How would we get them all the way from Vulcan to here?
“We will work out the details later. We could make a little detour to Vulcan before heading to Bajoran space,” Daniella offered as they walked into sickbay. “In the meantime, welcome to sickbay.”
In sickbay a young Vulcan girl was seated on the central biobed, and next to her stood a man in a uniform with science blue on it. He was scanning the girl. Daniella walked to them. “Robert meet Doctor Vanth. Doctor Vanth, this is Commander Robert Williams, my husband and Chief Science Officer. And this is Ambassador T'Rani.”
The Vulcan straightened up. “Mother, I have lost the status of Ambassador when I was effected.” She turned to Vanth. “But the Captain is correct. I was once known as Ambassador T'Rani.” She continued on saying, “Hello, Doctor Vanth, it is agreeable to meet you.”
“Thank you, and likewise.” The Caninoid was a hugger, but s/he also knew better than to interrupt the busy science officer. “What seems to be troubling you today Ms T'Rani?” s/he asked more out of curiosity rather than a desire to take over even though s/he also knew typically a doctor tried to avoid working on family members.
“Doctor Vanth. Pleasure to meet you. Hi honey” Robert said, running his tricorder. “Oh, she’s fine.” He said. “Just a checkup of sorts. Trying to reverse what happened to her. Unlucky so far”
“Oh, almost forgot. Robert Williams.” He said, sticking a hand out. “Call me ‘Rob.’ ‘Bob.’ Whatever you want. Easier than “Commander.” Or “Doctor” he laughed.
Doctor Vanth accepted Rob’s hand, but instead of shaking it, s/he used it to help pull him into a Beastinoid standard greeting hug. “It’s soo good to meet you Robbie!” S/he released him and looked between the two Terrans and the Vulcan and back again. S/he figured the apparent youth must have been adopted. Turning to the girl s/he asked, “mind if I ask what seems to be ailing you?”
T'Rani looked to the Caninoid doctor. “Doctor, as my adoptive father explained, he was running some routine tests.” She shifted a little and then continued, “4 years ago on the colony 452 Professor Patrick Fitzgeral was conducting experiments, when there was an accident, turning all the adult colonists in to children. Doctor Williams is working on a cure with Starfleet medical and science. Unfortunately, without success. They have been unable to safely recreate the accident to better understand it. For now, the risk of that option is too great. In my appearance I look like a 12-year-old Vulcan. But would you believe I am actually 42 years old?”
“Well I for one wouldn’t mind being in a slightly younger body,” Doctor Vanth responded with a doggie-smile, “but I don’t envy you going through puberty again. That is if your body regressed in every way.” S/he looked between father and daughter. “I hope that if there is anything I can do to help in any way; please don’t hesitate to ask. Even if you just need to talk. One thing’s for sure you seemed not to have regressed mentally though. Have you been able to continue your career?” The Caninoid’s tail wagged lightly and a little sheepishly; s/he hoped s/he wasn’t being too intrusive.
T'Rani took a deep breath, that almost sounded like a sigh. “I have tried to continue my work. My colleagues did their best to see past my appearance, unfortunately not everyone is as understanding. At times it has been difficult. I have decided to restart my career and go a different path.” She turned to her father. “I have decided to follow a path of medical sciences to assist my father.”
“Well, it is nice to meet you Ms T'Rani;” Vanth said, tail wagging, “I shall endeavor to support and assist your goals in any way possible. For the record, I am over 100 standard years old, and I would not have had any issue with working along side a 12-year-old as long as they had the credentials to do whatever they were doing. If you need any hours in sickbay for work-study, clinicals, or anything else feel free to come to me.” S/he smiled.
T'Rani nodded. "Thank you, doctor, that would be most appreciated." She got off the biobed and then looked to Robert.
Robert beamed with pride. He took T'Rani by the hand. “You’ll be a great doctor, honey.” was all he could say.
"Thank you, Father," She nodded to Robert. "I hope you got what you needed for you research."
Daniella turned to Fanth, "Well, I have to go now, I leave you here and Commander Williams and T'Rani can show you arround. If you need anything, my office is always open."
