Mission:
[USS Ottawa]Bendy and the Dark Star Trek
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD001 2000 hrs.
Pierce had arrived on the USS Ottawa, only taking the time to put his belongings into one corner of his quarters. He'd get to it after he reported into the CO of the ship. Pierce looked once more at the image of the CO, her features looking rather familiar, but, was it the woman he knew back in the days of the academy. Daniella, that wasn't a name he'd forget. Nor the adventurous spirit she had. He'd not kept in touch with her, and actually wished he had. Taking a glance in the mirror and making certain his uniform looked presentable, he proceeded to the bridge and to the door of the ready room.
Pierce glanced back at where he'd be sitting as the first officer of the USS Ottawa. First Officer, it still dumbfounded him that he was at the rank of commander and also an XO.
He reached out and pressed the annunciator, the chime letting the CO know there was a visitor. Pierce for some reason was feeling butterflies flutter in his stomach. Was it the Daniella he knew back in the academy days?
Daniella was signing off reports and a lot of paper work. Her desk was filled with padds. A lot of transfers had taken place since the return of the Ottawa-A. So much she needed to read up on. This ship has been through a lot. Not to mention her predecessor Steamrunner class. Taking this legacy over from Colonel Ijaan was not going to be an easy feat. Not not to mention she got some new crew with it as well.
The chime to her officer rang. She put the padd she was holding and rubbed her face and looked at the time. Was it this late already. "Enter!" She called out as she got up to get to the replicator.
Pierce stepped inside and walked a few steps forward when he halted abruptly, "Daniella? Is that you?" taking another couple of steps more. Peering at her intensely. "How have you been? Its been quite a long while." then Reagan remembered his protocol. "I'm reporting in Captain, as your, new XO." Reagan was feeling just a tad bit awkward for the moment.
Daniella started to laugh when Pierce walked in to the room. "Hello, old friend, I see you haven't changed that much." She walked to her replicator. "I seen your personnel file on my desk. So my prayers for a good first officer were heard. Please have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?"
"That would be lovely." Pierce responded with a smile, "Some tea with lemon and honey, please." taking a seat nearby. "I think I have a lot to catch up with you, it didn't even click in my mind as to your new last name." Giving a rueful smile. The smile faded away as he remembered something which happened about a year ago.
Pierce's voice was soft and gentle, when he spoke again. "I had just recently learned of your father's passing last year. And I am sorry I wasn't there, and that I wasn't around much, let alone being in contact."
Daniella waved the apologies away as she returned to her desk with the drinks. "We are in starfleet, we all had our duties to preform. Though the loss of my father is still fresh, and not just with me, we must continue. I know my father would have wanted us all to continue and bring peace to the Gamma quadrant." She sat down and held the mug with tea a moment in her hands before she took a sip from it.
Taking his own mug of tea, Pierce blew into it before taking a sip of it. "Perfect, and thank you. I will agree with your father, we do need to continue on our mission. I am most grateful to be here with you. Truly helps to have a familiar face, and be able to team up with you. You're married, and do you have children?"
She nodded, "I am married and I have 3. Two biological and one adopted. Kimberly, Anthony and T'Rani. T'Rani is the oldest. Mentally she sounds 40 or something, and she is a Vulcan. She actually is 40. But she was turned in to a 12 years old in an accident 3 years ago. Robert and I have been taking care of her ever since. Mostly he is working with her on a possible cure for her predicament." Daniella explained.
"That is a perplexing predicament. I am glad though, that she has you and your husband to provide support." Pierce giving a nod. "I've not been as fortunate as you, in finding someone to share my life with. I've had a spell of bad luck on that one. I found someone, however, she is no longer in the world of the living." a pained expression of sadness came to the surface. "Perhaps one day, I will find that happiness once more."
Daniella looked away for a moment. "I am sorry for your loss, and I am sorry life hasn't been this prosperous on you. I hope the Ottawa might bring you new people and insights." She crossed her arms as she leaned back as she continued, "I assume you have at least some briefing on the situation of the Ottawa and the current state the Gamma Quadrant is in."
Pierce gave a nod. "I feel that things will be better here on the Ottawa, to me, its good sign being here in this room with someone I know. As for the situation I do know somewhat of the situation and the current state of things. I will catch up to speed very soon. " he took a drink of his tea, looking at his friend and now his Commanding officer. "The details were sketchy at best as I had been told it was for the most part a need to know basis."
Daniella put her mug down. "Well now that you have accepted this position, you need to know." She got up and walked to her window. "As of last year we are at war. The enemy, a species called the Crescent, in short. They introduce themselves as the Crescent of Sapphira. I believe Sapphira is a deity they seem to worship. They have started a crusade in the Gamma quadrant they call the cleansing. And now they have set their sights on the Federation and Starfleet." She leaned against the window as she softly said, "They killed my father. They destroyed the ship he was on and I saw it happen." She turned around and continued, "They're ruthless, Pierce, we can't underestimate them."
Pierce rose from his seat and walked over to where Daniella was, a fire in his eyes, "It makes me wonder if they had attacked where I had been stationed at a research facility. Unknown raiders had hit and almost destroyed the place. Many died, others were able to get away. I won't stand idly by and let that continue." He reached out and touched her shoulder, That is awful you saw your father killed." his voice lowered, giving her shoulder a squeeze of comfort and then released it. He looked out among the stars. "I don't like it when zealots decide they can just force their points of views on people. "
Daniella just looked away. "There is a lot we know, but there is always a lot we don't know. The Crescent were encountered about 3 years ago by the Bajorans on New Bajor. The USS Juno was send out to rescue New Bajor. They were too late. Although the Crescent didn't destroy new Bajor. They killed the Chancellor of New Bajor and brutally injured Lieutenant Aanyo. They pretty beaten up the Juno, it's replaced by the USS Shanghai." She turned around.
She continued on, "They're a telepathic and telekinetic race. Apparently there are grades in those abilities. And that for the most part decides the hierarchy in their society. The other part is that their females are the dominant sex. That seems to be by choice and not evolution apparently, from my understanding. There is a lot of equality, but it seems that the females rule their clans and house, command their ships and armies. Their highest authority, an Empress and high priestess."
"Just how do we combat that unless we have, telepathic scramblers which will give them a headache. And would need to figure out something to deal with those other abilities. We can't let them run rampant." Pierce frowned as he thought of ways that could possibly stop the fanatics. "Maybe finding some sort of powder or substance to help even the odds."
"From what I heard from the latest report from Starbase New Haven and the USS Shanghai, they are working on a solution. I believe they have two Crescent working with them...in some way." She swallowed a little. That was something she couldn't understand. "I believe Doctor T'San on the Shanghai is charge of the team. They made headway I believe." She shrugged her feelings off. "I believe the entire task force gets regular updates."
Pierce nodded, "All right that is a good thing to hear. For now, we basically keep watch and go about our other business?" he looked out towards the stars, with his reflection showing as well.
"This ship has been through some changes when it returned from an alternate universe." Daniella walked back to her desk and then pulled out a padd. "My predecessor, Colonel Ijaan called it the Paranormal universe. Apparently that universe had been in war with the Alternate Crescent for 9 years already. While they were there, an entity known as Umbra who brought them there in the first place, gave this ship a little upgrade. Now normally Starfleet would have it send back the shipyards to have it picked apart and back engineered for our benefits. But seeing the recent developments we can't afford the wait. The crescents have declared war, and this is probably the only ship in the fleet currently that could give us the edge we need against them. That coupled with the fact we have two of the best engineers on board, if anything the both of them can figured out this new technology alongside the science department and security. And maybe even device a method to replicate this technology for other ships in the fleet."
She handed Pierce the padd. "The technology includes a second shielding, which seems to block the Crescents mental attacks on the ship. Which seems to be very useful." She paused to let that information sink in with her old friend and new first officer.
Pierce read it over, taking in the details, then looked up with a smile. "I really like this and it gives me hope. And yes I concur, definitely need this very much. And we can not wait, anything I can do to help. I'll do so. "
"Thank you," Daniella said, "I was hoping you would. I am also new on this ship. So I think we will have to do this together now. You and I, just like old times?"
He chuckled, "Just like old times. sticking together through thick at thin, and this time we are in the same area once more. Look out universe here we come." grinning from ear to ear.
She nodded. "Indeed." She felt a little more hopeful again.
"Lets get to work then Mon Capitan." Pierce giving a grin.
