Mission: [USS Shanghai] S1E2: Encounter in the Abyss
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD+4, 1700 Hours

The bridge crew was now back on the bridge, the bridge felt very crowded, mainly because the beta shift team was also on the bridge. The USS Juno, was entering orbit of New Bajor. "Miss Taylor, bring us in geosynchronous orbit." Ordered Harry, from his command chair.

"Aye Captain," said Avril. She could not help but think back on the embrassing moment earlier in the promotion ceremony of the Captain. She tried to shake it off. Instead she tried to think about meeting the Captain's daughter. At least that encounter went better.

Harry then looked over to Bervag and then over to T'San. Both were sitting on the bridge command chairs, on either side of him. "Mister Xalanth, please signal the colony we have arrived and we will be sending down an away team soon."

" Yes sir. There comms relay seem to be in very bad condation this may take some time." The lizard said from behind his station as he got to work.

"Is Doctor T'Para ready to cover for you?" Asked Harry, as he looked to T'San.

T'San nodded. "I have full confidence in T'Para."

Before Bervag could answer, Avril called out as protocol dictated. "Captain we have reached geosynchronous orbit." Said Avril, as she locked the Juno, in orbit over New Bajor. She spun her chair around to see the Captain and the rest of the bridge crew. Her station was to far forward of the bridge layout.

"Well in that case, Number One assemble your team, I want all information you can find, and head back to the ship as soon as possible." Ordered Harry, wishing he could go with him. It was not to long ago, when Harry was just a first officer.

"Aye sir." he said. "Mr Xalanth. Doctor." he said, rising from his seat and starting towards the lift.

The lizard nooded as he handed his station over to another security officer before heading to the turbo lift.

The vulcan doctor got up and walked to the turbo lift.

Harry wished he was going with them. But he was place was now on the ship. Sacrifices you make to be a starship captain, he kept reminding himself. "Safe travels, away team." He said, watching them leave the bridge.

After they left the bridge, Harry looked at Avril and then at Kimoni, who was managing the science station and after that awkward conversation, he was not sure what to say to her. "Miss Taylor you have the bridge, if you need me, just hop on the intercom." Ordered Harry as he walked off the bridge. He needed to clear his head.

"Aye Captain," she said, as she watched the Captain leave the bridge. He did not even say where he was going, or when he would be back.

She was a little hesistant to sit in the chair. She looked over to Kimoni, she debated on asking her, she was torn if she should ask her about the chair. "Have you ever sat in the chair?" Asked Avril, a little afraid to sit in the chair.

Kimoni turned to face Avril and gave a slight smile.

“Me personally? No never. However two of my previous hosts have. My Third host, Kedrin was First Officer of the USS Odin and my fifth host, Narleen was captain of the USS Eureka. As I remember it took Kedrin a while before he could bring himself to sit in the chair.”

She stood and walked over to Avril, “It's mostly mind over matter, He resisted for a while but once he sat there, it all washed away. It's a big responsibility but as they both found, a Captain only gives that chair to people they believe they can handle it.” She added, patting the Chair's arm.

"Well you can sit it, I prefer my chair over there." Suggested Avril, feeling it was wrong somehow. She had barely completed the academy, and now was left in charge of the bridge. She watched from a safe distance, as Kimoni handled the chair arm.

Kimoni looked at the chair for a few seconds before shaking her head. Maybe someday, She thought as she stepped away.

She tugged on her jacket as she returned to her post, unsure of her next move. It seemed to her that Avril was worried about the responsibility she'd been given, not that Kimoni blamed her, it was a surprisingly powerful position, even when nothing was going on.

"It's not my time Lieutenant, that honour goes to you."

"Great," said Avril, as she kept her distance from the chair.

She wondered how much longer they would be on the bridge. She did her best, to keep the side chatter going, while making sure the Juno maintained orbit over New Bajor.

She noticed a message on the captain's chair it was a from the captain. Telling her and the bridge crew to clear out at 1800 hours.

After one hour the bridge crew rotate off duty, after serving a 10 hour shift.
