Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1E2: Encounter in the Abyss
Location: USS Juno
Timeline: May 13th. 2394 1145
Bers had just left sickbay with two things. One being a clean bill of health. Two, orders from the CMO. Simple orders though, get people in for their physicals. He had a padd out, writing up an order he was going to transmit to peoples consoles when he had to stop short. For good reason as he narrowly avoided a collision with another officer. He was instantly embarrassed. Smooth move, Bervag. he kicked himself, to which the Bers symbiont agreed.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to cut you off." he said, embarrassment clear in hisvoice.
"That's okay Commander, I was was in a world of my own, still getting used to the ship. I've been walking the corridors for the last 2 hours, I guess I just phased out." Kimoni replied, taking a step back to give Bervag a little more space.
"We've all been there." he smiled. "Need some help? I'd be more than happy to."
"That would be great, I think i'm mostly there but I was going to take another walk around." She said, Feeling Jexen stir slightly.
"I can find my Lab at least, so that's something."
He nodded. I hear you. It was all I could do to find my office early on." he said. He felt Bers stir as well
"I just transferred over from the USS Gemini, The sheer size difference alone is a little jarring." She said, "The Gemini is a Miranda class vessel, not exactly a luxury liner. Walking around the Juno is a starbase by comparison."
"I heard that. Excelsior here." he smiled.
"More elbow room at least." She Said, looking at the spots on Bervag's face, "If you don't mind me asking Commander, are you Joined or unjoined?" She added, feeling a little like she was being too forward.
"I don't mind." he smiled. "I am in fact joined." he nodded.
Kimoni smiled slightly, placing her hand on her stomach, "That explains it, Jexen feels like their about to start doing barrel rolls... which now I think about it is an amusing thought.
Bervag couldn't help but chuckle at that. That brought an image to mind as he smiled 'Bers too." he said. "It's like their trying out a new dance routine or something." he laughed.
"Well lets hope it doesn't last too long, I think I may start getting motion sickness if it keeps up." She chuckled, "Well it this moment I'm looking for Nemo's lounge."
"Oh, I do know how to get there." he smiled, Bers calming down, to his relief. "Not that far to get there."
"Oh good, I'm ready for a drink and a sit down after all that walking." Kimoni said as Jexen calmed. She'd not experienced that before, although Bervag was one of the first joined Trills she'd met since her once joining, maybe that had something to do with it.
He nodded to her as they entered. He walked with her up to the bar and smiled at the bartender. He smiled back to the XO. Ever the gentleman he opened the floor for Kimoni to order first.
"Why Thankyou Commander. I'll have a Maka Root tea please." Kimoni said to the bartender.
"Orange pekot tea please." he said He turned to Kimoni. "So.." he said. "How long have you been joined? If you don't mind me asking.
"It's only been a few months now, I have to admit it's been a hard transition. I'm still not quite one hundred percent, but i'm getting there. Mostly it's separating Jexen's memories from my own, things tend to get a bit muddled."
Bervag nodded. He understood completely, and could feel where she was coming from He'd been there himself. He thought as he sipped his tea. "We can go to a table?" he offered. "Ask any questions you may have."
Kimoni nodded as she walked towards a nearby table. "How do you do it? How do you keep everything straight in your head?"
"I must admit, It can be trying." he replied. "All those memories." he nodded. "Oddly enough, reading helps me. When I read, I can focus better. Which helps me sort things out. Sometimes other hosts quirks assert themselves, but not often." he said.
"Reading, hmm. May have to try that. I've taken to meditation myself. Things are better now, but I'd be lieing if I said I was totally at ease."
"I understand. It does take a certain amount of getting used to." Bervag said. "But after a while, at least with Bers." he began. "It gets to be a partnership. Like a friend that's with you, to guide you. Best way I know how to say it."
Kimoni nodded slowly as she took a drink. "I feel some of that, I think we're getting there at least. I understand it takes time, I just didn't think it'd be so confusing."
"I hear you on that one." he said
Kimoni finished her drink and placed the empty cup on the table.
"Thank you Commander for your time and advice, you've given me a lot to think about." She said, "it's been good to talk to another Joined Trill, it's surprising how difficult we are to find. If you'll excuse me, I have some thinking to do."
"Sure." Bervag replied. "Glad I could be of service.
