You should try shore leave

Mission: [USS Ottawa] S1, E2: Empok Nor
Location: Engineering
Timeline: 05/24/2394, 1000 Hrs

Emily wasted very little time going from the bridge, to her quarters and now to the engineering bay. She knew she would find her commanding officer, hard at work, when he was suppose to be on shore leave. "Lieutenant Sharpe?" Called out Emily, she was nervous and excited all at the same time.

Gabe pulled himself out of the work duct on Main Engineering' second level, "Up the phase variance by point three and restart then system, that should fix the problem. His boots hit the decking with a loud crack as he dropped from the hole.

That's not a voice I recognise. He thought to himself as he moved across the gantry and took a look over the railing. Must be a new recruit, she isn't on the crew roster.

He moved over to the ladder that led back to the main deck and slid down in a well practiced motion and stepped over to the Ensign.

"I'm Lieutenant Sharpe, and who are ya?" He asked.

"Ensign Emily Patterson, reporting for duty." She said in a high pitch tone. She did not mean too, but she was a little excited to be meeting a living legend in the engineering community.

"Interestin' I wasn't told of any new transfers, but what the hey." Gabe replied, wondering why he hadn't been told of this.

"Captain Martinez requested me, sir." Said Emily, wondering if she should tell him, of her personal history with the captain, back when they were both on the USS Falco. She handed Gabe, her transfer orders. She was eager to get started, but she remembered what the captain told her to tell him. Now she had to wait for the right moment, to tell him to go on shore leave.

Gabe looked at the PADD Emily had handed him, everything seemed above board.

"Yea, he has a habit of doin' that." Gabe said with a smile, that was after all the reason he was on the Ottawa.

Gabe handed the PADD back to Emily. "Welcome aboard the Ottawa Ensign."

"Thank you sir, and the Captain had a message he asked me to relay. Your on shore leave. There sir, I relayed the captain's message." She said, hoping Gabe would not strangle her, or take it out on her.

Gabe chuckled, "Of course he gave ya that message. Surprised he hasn't been down here himself yet ta order me ta take shore leave personally."

Though he was surprised Dom had sent the message with his new engineer, he knew why he'd done it. Dom he could have talked round, but since Emily was the messenger he was stuck without an easy way out.

"He's not really giving me much choice is he?"

"No Sir, he is not." She said with a chuckle. "Anything else you would like me to do sir?" She asked, wondering if he needed hand or if she was going to be told to help out.

"Oh I could think of a few things, but your transfer orders state that officially you don't start until after shore leave. But thankya for comin' ta see me first, saves time later on. So get yaself ready ta take some time off... if I gotta do, so do ya Ensign."

"Yes sir, thank you sir. This is a great honor. I can not wait for shore to end." She said Eagerly. She did not mean to blurt that out, it just came out. "Sorry about that sir, just looking forward to shadowing you.....you're sort of a lengend at the academy, I promise to try to keep the hero worshiping down." Said Emily. She felt a little embarrassed for her child like excitement.

Gabe raised an eyebrow at hearing he was considered legendary. "Legendary?" He replied, not sure how to continue.
"Ensign, I'm no legend. I'm just an engineer, there's thousands of us all across the fleet. More then a few on this very ship. Thought it would be in interestin' ta hear what their sayin' about me, just ta hear what it is they say makes me a bloody legend." He added with a chuckle, running his hand through his beard. "Go and enjoy ya self Ensign."

"Yes sir, I think I should take my leave." She said, trying to get out of the room. She needed to get her hero worshiping under control. Best way to do that, was to leave engineering and blow off some steam on the promenade. She wanted to buy a couple more items. First she needed to stop by her quarters.
