Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1, E5: Countdown
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 06/01/2394, 0900 Hours
T'Meela felt much better since their little trip to the holodeck on the Empok Nor. She had picked Orson up from his quarters and the two of them were standing outside of sick. "Orson, I don't want to force you to do anything, but this would help starfleet significantly.
"They helped me. Well specifically you're family and the Juno. It's only fair that I help them."
T'Meela nodded. "Right. Let's get in then." She walked in to sickbay with Orson next to him holding her hand. Her mother was in her office making reports. When her daughter and Orson walked in, she looked up from her work.
"T'Meela, Orson," She said with a bit of a stern voice. She got up and nodded to them. "Can I help you with something?"
T'Meela gave a little push to Orson. "You know what it is." She whispered to him."
Orson turned as red as a beet. "Well.."he stammered. "I've been hanging out with T'Meela recently. And one night she had me push into my telepathic abilities. Abilities that I have to admit I never knew I had. So Grandmother had to have been limiting me." he began. "We thought it might work both ways?"
T'San just stood there as she listened to Orson. Being telepathic and empathic through her race, she had no reason to distrust him, unlike some other members of the crew. When he stopped speaking she nodded and said, "I will have to talk to Lieutenant Jexen. Orson, would you mind letting us scan you so we can learn more about your species including on what frequency your brain operates?" We will not harm you, I promise you that."
"I trust you, Dr T'San." Orson replied
T'San nodded as she tapped her combadge. "Lieutenant Jexen, can you join me in sickbay please?"
Kimoni sat at her Bridge station as her commbadge activated, "I'll be right down Doctor." She said as she stood up, with a quick nod to the female Caitian at science two. The Caitian Ensign nodded in return and moved to take over the main station as Kimoni entered the turbolift.
A few minutes later she stepped into Sickbay. She saw T'Meela and Orson talking to T'San. She had no idea what they were talking about but had a feeling she'd find out.
"What can I do for you Doctor?" She asked
"I am just going to ignore the fact that my daughter did something highly irresponsible." T'San gave a look to T'Meela so she would know they would talk about that later, "Our young guest here has discovered his mental abilities. Now, I believe there is no need for concern, but he has given me information that could be helpful. He believes his grandmother is able to suppress the mental abilities of his people and he thinks we can use that on her. Do you think you can work with me to created something like that?"
"Ah Daughters, I've been there multiple times." Kimoni said with a chuckle, "So the plan is to create something to supress mental powers..." Kimoni brushed her hair behind her right ear and took a minute to think it over.
"We'd have to trace the origin of the powers and how they are projected it is possible that between us we could come up with something."
"Young master De has offered his assistance. I was think of making a brain scan. We could get a pretty good look at a Crescent brain. What do you think, Lieutenant?" T'San said.
"It would help if we knew which sections of the brain are in use during the usage of these abilities, that and which neurons are firing at the time will help lets us know what we'd need to supress them."
"Ok, what we could do is, and I hate to say this, but T'Meela will have to reenact her little experiment while we attach him to a brain scanner," T'San said, as she looked to Orson and T'Meela.
T'Meela looked from T'San to Orson. "Well, Orson is pretty powerful, I am not sure if I could go up against him a second time right now. I really need to get up to strength first."
T'San nodded as she sighed a bit. "I will do it then, but you have to monitor the scans, Lieutenant."
Kimoni nodded, "Of course Doctor." She stepped over to one of the wall monitors and reconfigured it to show the scan results. "I'm ready when everyone else is."
T'San walked to Orson and showed him the mental scanners. "This won't hurt." She placed them on Orson's head at key locations and activated them. She then looked to Orson. "Go ahead and do what you did to T'Meela. You will find I am more disciplined then T'Meela is, I will put up more resistance as she did."
"I'll do my best, Doctor." He said.
T'San looked to Orson. "Ready when you are, young mister De." She said.
Orson nodded. He reached out. In an effort to put T"San to one knee. And the doctor proved herself correct. Orson didn't know to push. But T'San said do the same, so he did.
T'San could feel the pressure on her body. She at first tried to keep her face straight as she focused on Orson, but she could tell he was really powerful. He had no idea how powerful he was. She didn't feel the full blow of it, but she could tell that if he really focused he could do a lot more then just forcing T'San on her knees. Finally she had to use more. She bald her hands to fists. She closed her eyes. Her resistance seemed too make his power increase. T'San couldn't tell if he was in control of that or if it just happened. She felt her knee bent down. She bit her lip and could no longer stop it and she got on on knee and her hands just fell down. She looked up to Orson. Orson, you can stop now. She said in his mind.
The child snapped out of his focus. And was immediately remorseful
Kimoni watched T'San's readings jump and turned in time to see her drop to her knees. She dashed across Sickbay and pulled T'San to her feet before laying her on a Biobed. She turned to Orson "That's enough." She said, steel in her voice as she attached a cortical scanner to T'San's forehead. She saw the blood on T'San's lip and realised Orson was overwhelming her mental barriers, not an easy thing to do.
Orson just hung his head in shame.
As T'San felt Orson's control gone, she regained control. She moved up and wiped the blood from her lip. As she looked to the blood on her hand she said, "It's alright, Lieutenant. " She looked to Orson. "You have so much power. I can not believe that you can't control. You got this power by birth, if your people is known for this kind of power, it means they would have taught you by now how to control it."
"I've only recently become aware of it, Doctor." he said, Remorse clear in his voice. "I do believe grandmother was inhibiting me. And now I see why." he said, sullen. "And I truly apologize if I've hurt anyone. It's not my intention, I swear to you."
"It's quite alright," T'San said, mentally she was exhausted, but she could sense he was being sincere. She lay back down. "Lieutenant, did you get any readings?" She looked up to Orson and said to him, as she waited for an answer from Kimoni, "You are very powerful, maybe even as powerful as your grandmother, when you can control it. Have you consider that?"
"I did indeed." Kimoni replied as she switched the screen nearby her to show the scan results. "Results show activity in the Insular Lobe and the lateral sulcus to be around 300 percent that of the baseline scans of Mr De here. Serotonin levels dropped to around 45 percent of baseline as well. What that all means in relation to his powers I can't say yet, but it is interesting."
T'San looked over the screen and nodded, "That is definitely interesting. Maybe you can make a start with it. I will have Dan bring me up some food." She stared at the screen intently a moment. And then said, "T'Meela, Dan, will you leave us a moment?" She waited for them to leave the room and then looked at Kimoni. "Lieutenant...Kimoni, I know what you must be thinking. And I agree, if the circumstances were different, we have a very dangerous enemy on board. I can not convince you otherwise, but you should know that I trust Orson. He is only a child. and he chose not only to share this information with us, but also to allow us to scan him. He chose to defect. I doubt we would be able to have capture a Crescent that easily. I also don't know if any of them would have defected at all. Orson is strong, I admit, we shouldn't play around carelessly with his powers. But he doesn't know how powerful he is. I sense no deception in him. He either really does not know, or someone erased his memories. You can have your opinion, but this is mine. Be sure to put that in your report!"
Kimoni watched T'San's face as she spoke, she knew it was no doubt a waste of time, Vulcans rarely if ever gave anything away. I trust your judgement T'San and frankly I'm a little annoyed you don't seem to trust mine. You more then anyone should know I don't place personal feeling before facts" She said as she transferred the data to a PADD.
"And one important fact is, whether he meant to or not, he overpowered you. It is possible, however unlikely, that knew exactly what he was doing"
T'San pushed herself up and sat up straight. "This is not about not trusting you, Kimoni, or your opinion. I respect yours either way. I am just telling you mine. We are doing this research together. And sometimes it nice to be opposites of a research, is it not?" She put her feet over the edge of the bed. "My mental powers may not be as good as his are. My telepathic powers are just as good, if not better. There is nothing he can not hide from me, including his intentions."
"I hope your right." Kimoni replied, in some ways still feeling the effects of the Tubo, that had swapped the minds of various crew members.
"I'll need a few hours to go over all of this, The brain isn't exactly my area of expertise. Seven past lifetimes and I've never been a doctor." She said with a chuckle, "I think it's safe to say i'm the inferior partner in this little research project."
T'San scoffed a little trying to suppress a smile which was very hard since occupying another body. "When I have my strength back I will pick up where you leave the work." She nodded.
"Then I'll wish you a speedy recovery." Kimoni added with a smile, "I'll be in the lab taking a look at this data, unless you'd prefer I stay up here."
"The lab is fine, I am not a very good patient." T'San intended it as a joke. "Thank you, again, Lieutenant. I will see you later."
