Carly was a little concerned about entering the science lab of Kimoni Jexen. She was expecting to be scorned by Kimoni. She was not sorry for what she did, but she was told to apologize for her incident. In her eyes it was a harmless prank, and Kimoni was just a target of opportunity. It was not personal with her at all.
Carly walked into the science lab, and looked around for Kimoni. With a soft voice Carly said. "Hello." Hoping that Kimoni was not there, so she could leave. And tell her father she tried. Carly stood there for a brief moment, waiting to see if Kimoni was in the room. Her heart accelerated a little with excitement and nervousness.
Kimoni was just finishing putting away the last lot of equipment she'd used as he heard a familiar voice ring out in the main section of the lab. She let out a quiet sigh, not sure if she wanted to put up with teenage drama, especially after being the target. She shook her head, remembering how many times in the past she'd had to deal with this kind of thing... from both sides.
She stepped out into the lab and nodded to Carly, "Good Morning Miss Wilda, to what do I owe the pleasure?" She asked using her best matronly voice, something she'd never done before, drawing upon Jexen's past experience more then her own.
Carly took a deep breath, she really did not want to do this. But she did not really have a choice. She did not want to be charged, like her mother. "Morning Ma'am. I stopped by to say I am sorry for yesterday's incident." Said Carly, in a low voice. It was hard for her to get that out. She was only trying to have fun, and now she needed to say she was sorry. Did not seem very fair.
"Would that be because your sorry or because you've been told to say sorry?" She asked, pretty sure she knew the answer, but unwilling to just bow down.
"Does it matter? I came down to say I am sorry." She asked annoyingly. Why was Kimoni making this difficult? This was already hard enough of Carly.
"Of course it matters, if your really here to apologize then I'll hear you out, if your only here because then you've been told to say sorry then you don't really mean it and we have nothing more to say to each other." Kimoni replied.
"There is nothing to hear out, I came down to say I am sorry. There is nothing to discuss." Said Carly, itching to walk out the door. In her eyes, it was a prank, and the damn grownups needed to stop acting liking kids. And learn to take a joke.
"Oh really? Did you stop to think what impact your little prank could have had on Jexen? hmm? How those Bolites could have effected myself or the Symbiont's biochemisty?"
"Leave it to an adult, to take the fun out of a prank." Cold heartily said Carly, with an annoyed look on her face. "Sorry, I won't prank you again!" She said very defensively.
Kimoni sighed, she had her answer. "Then sadly I believe you are correct, we have nothing more to say to each other. If your idea of 'fun' is attempting to embarrass people, then I'd say you either have a very low opinion of others... or yourself."
"Perhaps, you just need to find your inner child, and them out to play." Suggested Carly, hoping to get Kimoni to see it was okay to allow your inner child to be freed. "You were not hurt, your host was not hurt. Yet you act like you almost died. Why do adults need to be over dramatic." She said being a little dramatic and emotional.
Kimoni smiled, "I was merely pointing out that things could very easily have gone far differently. I've been your age eight times, I'm no stranger to practical jokes. But at the same time this is a starship, we're a pretty small community and before too long, going on as you are you'll quickly find you have no friends."
Kimoni folded her arms across her chest, "But then I doubt that'll be too much of a problem for an independent young lady like yourself."
"I am independent," she said, not realizing that she was being baited by Kimoni. She was thinking that Kimoni was finally seeing the error of her ways. Maybe one of those lifetime of experience, were paying off for her.
"Indeed, it is quite evident in how you carry yourself. A snarky comment for everything, a seeming desire to put your own entertainment before other people's feelings... yes Independent."
"I am just mimicking the behavior of other adults, you are all so mean to each other, so serious. When you have had enough you do cruel things to each other, at least I am doing it to liven up the place. Maybe if more adults learned to relax and take a joke, the universe would be better for it." Suggested Carly.
"Or it could be complete chaos. No leaders, no scientists, just everyone standing for nothing but their own entertainment." Kimoni replied, softening her voice slighty, "As with most things, moderation is the key. Too far one way or the other leads to an imbalance that can, note I said can, lead to bad things."
"So you are saying Adults, need to be chaperoned?" Teased Carly. She knew what Kimoni meant. She was trying to get Kimoni to see, that she needed to lighten up a little.
"No. I am saying we need to be more... careful in our mannerisms. We have to put more thought into everything. Decisions in your Adult life take on a whole new meaning and carry a lot more weight. Maybe you are correct and Adults need to be less serious... or maybe Teenagers need to be a little more serious, both arguments carry pros and cons."
"Are you going to talk in circles all day long?" Asked Carly. She wanted to leave, but the two of them were having a conversation, that was now starting to bore her. She was not afraid to be direct, she actually enjoyed it. She was a firm believer, on saying what's on your mind.
"No." Kimoni replied with a slight sigh, she knew she wasn't getting through to the young woman in front of her. "You can at least tell your Father you said sorry."
"Fantastic, until next time Lieutenant." Suggested Carly with a half witted smile on her face.
