[USS Juno] Kids are the Future

Location: CO Ready Room
Timeline: MD002 1700 hrs

Earth Space Dock, Deck 100, Guest Offices

Harry was in his temporary office, the USS Juno was not ready to board, it would not be ready till the next day, but he had a lot of people to meet, officially.

Even though he though he had four days to meet the crew, there was 853 personal and he needed to meet all of the department heads, he needed to start with the chief of security. The security forces were going to be the first officers and enlisted to board, they needed to be set and ready to go, before general boarding, could commence.

Harry sat in the uncomfortable chair, and trying to wiggle around the chair, to get comfortable, when he heard the door buzzer go off. He assumed it was Lieutenant Xalanth.

"Enter," he said. Harry waited for the dragonian security officer to walk into the sorry excuse, they called a station guest office.

The lizard a drink in his hand stepped through the door giving his commander a polite nod. " Good morning sir." He said politely.

"Have a seat Lieutenant," said Harry as he grabbed the data pad of Xalanth. He started to review the file again.

The lizard nodded and took a seat.

"Let's get down to business, so we put this behind us." Said Harry, looking Xalanth in his eyes. "Why did you request the transfer from the USS Titan to the USS Juno.?" Asked Harry.

" Well, sir as it recorded in my file for the last two years the Titan has been on a diplomatic mission to my people's homeworld. It was nice to see my home again, but my wonder lust was playing up again. My bandmates also has gotten her doctor qualification and the Juno was looking for medical personnel. She one of the junior doctors on the second shift." The lizard politely explained.

"Our mission is a long. We are attempting the first ten year mission into deep space. Seeing how your the only dragonian in service, are you going to be able to duties aboard the Juno, being in deep space, the only Dragonian in Starfleet will not get a lot of attention towards your people, like you received on the Titan, during your last assignment." Said Harry as he took a small breath.

"Your definitely qualified for the role, but being the only dragonian, being gone for a decade, I want to make sure, this is something you, your bondmate and two children want?" Asked Harry, basically offering Xalanth a chance to withdrawal.

" Sir my home is were ever I can lay my head provided my family is with me. I love my people, but I can manage without them and from the things that the Federation has found in the gamma quadrant I think you'll need me. " The dragonian replied his voice showing the seriousness in his voice.

"I know I will Lieutenant, but I wanted to make sure this was something you wanted to do. Being the only dragonian, can make things lonely, your skills are needed on a mission like this. I would be lying if said, I don't need you. But I am a fair man. So I thought I would give the chance to backout if you needed too." Said Harry.

Seeing Xalanth earlier with his daughter, made Harry realized how much he sacrificed to become a starship captain. 11 years ago Harry started his career, and now he is a starship commander a Lieutenant Commander.

Xalanth was a Lieutenant Junior Grade, in need of a promotion. He had been part of starfleet for over ten years, a few medals of great importance. But he was also a family man.

He knew Xalanth was probably skipped over because of his dragonian heritage, which is very wrong. And it was not something he was going to allow anyone on the Juno, an opportunity to discriminate him.

Harry had a feeling though, some might be intimidated by his reptilian exterior. People in general, fear what do they not understand. However this crew, better get use to the unknown, they were going into deep space.

" Thank you for offering me the chance sir, but me and my family had talked this over before. We know what we're getting into." Xalanth replied polity hoping his mate and eldest had made it to the station by now. " Do you have any family on this voyage?" He inquired politely.

"Non that I am aware of." He said with a slight chuckle. He hoped Xalanth realized he was trying to make a humerus joke. He was regretting not having children. Putting his career over everything.

He smiled as he went on to say. "Kids are great, tomorrow's leaders." Was the only thing he could think of to say. He felt he needed a better response than that."It's never to late to start a family right?" He asked, with a grin on his face.

" I'm sure you will sir. I never though i'd have any until we found out we would have Yazar. " The reptile replied his face showing a reptilian grin that he hoped wouldn't look to intimidating.

"Starfleet wants us to leave right after the teran holidays, I want you to check in with your security teams as soon as possible, you crew needs to be ready to go, before we can board everyone else, I have more personal to meet up with, sorry to cut the meeting short Lieutenant, we will have a lot of time after we depart to get to know one another. Welcome to the Juno, Lieutenant." Said Harry as he stood up to shake the dragonian's hand.

" Very good sir. I'll round up my personal and make sure they're ready to go. Hopefully, we'll be ready to go ahead of schedule. " The lizard replied as he stood gave the commander a good frim shake and left the small office.
