New captain, new mission.

Mission: [JM New Haven] S1 E2 A New Haven
Location: USS Shanghai Briefing room.

The yellow eyes of the newly promoted lizard stared out the window at the busy ship yeard of the starbase as his ship was loaded up with new supplies the USS Shanghai would need for this mission. It seemed simple enough and he knew the crew would have no problem dealing with it. It would probably be beneficial for them as well as they adjusted to his new command.

He tugged at the collar of his new uniform. Why was it they could never get these right?

Charlena walked in to the briefing room. She looked to her new captain at the window. She was sad that Harry was gone, but she was really happy he was in command now. She couldn't imagine anyone else taking command. She straightened her back. "Major Dilucca reporting for duty, sir!" She stood at attention as she saluted.

" At ease major. " The dragonian said with a grin on face as it fell on the familiar face. " How are you finding the new uniforms?" He asked.

"I think they're great, functional.." she looked to the Dragonian and smiled. "I see they haven't been able to fit it to you yet. Perhaps you should talk to the fleet tailors. Maybe they can make a custom one for you. I believe captains have a little leeway when it comes to the uniforms."

" I'll leave them a message. I know these are supposed to be replicated to fit you perfectly, but they never got my neck right." The lizard said as he waited for others to arrive.

A smile on her face, Kimoni entered the briefing room, She walked over to Xalanth and offered her hand. "Command red looks good on you sir."

" As it will on you someday lieutenant if you decided to take the command tests. " the lizard said as he gave a welcoming smile to the Trill. " Now we just have to wait for commander Thorrin, the new CAG officer and we can get this meeting started."

Finally getting settled in, Sandy headed for the briefing room. She was still in a state of shock about her new rank but supposed it was due to her new post and her record. That being said, she entered the briefing room, "Capt. Sandy "Ghost" Shannon reporting sir", she said, looking at the Commamding officer.

" Everyone may I introduce are new CAG officer Captain Sandy Shannon." The lizard said to the room. " she'll be in charge of the new fighter squadron the fleet has sent us."

Turning red in the face, "Thank you sir. I will do my best Commander", she said.

Charlie walked up to Sandy. "Hello, I am Major Charlena Dilucca. Welcome on board." She smiled as she held out her hand to the pilot.

"Thank you Major. The pleasure is all mine", Sandy said as she shook the Majors hand.

Thorrin was an Operations Officer, that is what he wanted to do for the rest of his career. So when they decided to promote him and make him the number two guy on the Shanghai he was nonplussed to say the least. He decided that if he hid in the Jefferies Tubes the Captain would have to choose someone else. However, the ship reminded him that he was to attend a Staff Meeting in thirty minutes. Once more he could not get any work done as his comm badge was constantly going off. Sigh the peaceful life of an Executive. Thorrin thought.

He strolled to his quarters where he replicated a command red uniform, donned it and affixed the new black pip to his collar. Too much had happened in the past few weeks. Too much for the El Aurian to handle at least. The situation with Aanyo, the Captain's transfer, his own promotion the list goes on. A Thorrin pondered those events he found himself outside the briefing room in short order. Without saying a word he entered and took his seat next to the Dragonian Captain. That in and of itself was an image that Thorrin would have to get used to.

"Well nice of you to join us commander Thorrin. " Xalanth said making a note to have a word with the human after this meeting.

"Now I'd like to reassure you all that the captain leaving us was just as a shock to me as it was to all of you. I hope as a crew we can overcome this and adapt to keep going." The lizard said as he brought up a map of the area.

"Now for our first mission is a simple one. High command wants us to go to the edge of the sector and begin laying sensor probes to help detect any crescent ships that may try and sneak into the system. Should be a simple enough mission and it should give the crew time to adjust to me running this place." he said as the route they were taking light up across the map. " Any questions?"

Charlie looked to the map and than nodded. "It does look simple." She then shook her head. "Well not so far. No questions at this time." She turned to the others at the table to see if they had any questions.

Sandy spoke up, "What do you need from my people sir?", she asked.

Thorrin leaned back in his chair as he thought about the mission parameters. Laying sensor devices was no job for a ship of this magnitude, he thought. He also thought about how he had better things to do then this briefing, which in his eyes did not even need to take place. However, the only thing he did audibly was exhale through his nose.

" Shannon I'd like you and your pilots to practice emergency launch drills as we go. We don't know if the crescent have fighters so we have info for you to practice with." the captain told his new officer.

"Understood sir", Sandy said making the appropriate notations on her PADD.

" Okay if there are no more questions than everyone is dismissed. Thorrin can yo stay for a second?" the dragonian added. He waited patiently for the others to leave before speaking. " Lieutenant Commander Thorrin i know that you didn't ask for this promotion. If someone more else comes along I would be offering them the position if that's acceptable with you."

Getting up and taking her PADD with her, she headed for the fighter bay and her pilots. She had exercises to run for this particular mission.

Thorrin leaned back in his chair. He figured that the Captain's candor meant that he did not have to ask for permission to speak freely. "While you are correct in that I did not ask for this promotion that does not mean that I do not want it. So I do not see a reason as to why you would offer it to someone else. More to the point or to answer your question that would not be acceptable to me. If I may ask what brought this on?"

" Your body poster gave it away commander. I know neither of us asked for this so shall we both try and make the best of it?" The lizard said offering his hand as a form of truce.

Thorrin took the hand offered and sighed again. "Sir posture was because I have never been one for briefings. I have always felt that I was better repairing and maintaining systems. However, that is something that I will have to work on improving." He smiled as he shook the Captain's hand.

" Well, we can both work on learning how to do this. " The lizard said as he gave his hand a good shake. " Before we get underway can you make sure the transporters are working. After the upgrade I'd like to make sure there working."

"Of course sir I will make sure that the Shanghai is ship shape and bristol fashioned." Thorrin replied.

" Very good. Carry on lieutenant commander." The drgaonian said as he watched everyone leave the room before pulling out the data chip. Here's hoping the mission would go well.
