It had taken longer than he ha hoped, but finally all of the crew physicals that needed to be done HAD been done. Now that he had the time his next thing was to find Charlie and see if she had any responsibilities or plans for the next couple of days. After consulting the ship's computer and finding that she was in the gym he immediately headed that direction.
When he arrived he immediately spotted her across the room, intently focused on the workout routine that she was doing. It appeared that she was so involved in what she was doing that she had taken no notice of him being there. That was okay with him because it gave him an opportunity to watch her. She was wearing a workout suit that appeared to be not much more than a sports workout bra and a pair of hip-hugging shorts. The outfit, while not being overly revealing, showed off her curves very well and definitely left no doubt that she was female.
Charlie was doing a routine on the treadmill, and she had earplugs in with music, as she didn't want to disturb anyone in the gym. So She hadn't noticed John walk in. Her hair, in a ponytail, was bouncing around as she was running. After her timer beeped, she slowed down and turned off the device. She took her towel and dried her face. She turned around to get off and then noticed him. She pulled out the plugs in her ears and smiled to him. "Hey doctor, is this a house call?" She grinned mocking at him.
"I suppose it could be," he answered with a grin. "And I have to say that the patient is one of the prettiest ones I've seen all day. And speaking of being a patient, you forgot to come by sickbay this morning so I could check your ankle. I noticed it had good motion when you were on the treadmill. How does it feel?" Who was he trying to fool? He had been watching her, that was certain. But truth be told, her ankle wasn't the first thing he'd been watching.
Charlie smiled and said, "I wasn't aware I was suppose to come in this morning for my ankle." She looked to it a moment. "It feels fine." She could tell he was eyeing her. She walked to him and put the towel on his shoulder. "Like what you see, doctor? What is your assessment?" She grinned waiting for his answer with her arms crossed.
"I do like what I see," he said as he smiled back at her. "And as for an assessment I have to say that I've never known a Marine that was quite put together as you are - or one that I was as attracted to, I might add." Then, gesturing to the gym he asked "Do you work out with more than just the treadmill?" His first thought was to hug her but seeing that there were others in the gym he decided to wait and see what her reaction would be. "And I guess I have to admit you caught me..." he said with a guilty grin. "Your ankle wasn't due for a checkup until tomorrow. I just wanted an excuse to see you."
Charlie grinned. "At least you're honest about it." She walked to the bicycles and then to the ring. "I work out a lot. the treadmill is not the only thing." She then looked teasing to him and said, "You know this doesn't happen naturally." She showed off her body.
As she was obviously showing off for him, he took the opportunity to look her over carefully. "Whether it occurs naturally or not," he said giving her a low whistle, "It's most definitely appealing. How often do you work out?" He was still resisting the urge to hug her as he had not seen her since yesterday evening, but the longer he looked at her the more that urge seemed to grow.
"Every day, I used to run every morning before breakfast, but after I fainted while sparring with Captain Xalanth, Doctor T'San, your predecessor kind of lectured me on the importance of eating before using energy," She looked a bit crossed eyed about that. "She is right of course. I really wasn't taking care of myself." She sighed. "Do you know doctor T'San?"
"Only by reputation," John said. "I've not had the pleasure of meeting her. But from what I've heard she is an excellent doctor and she is absolutely right. We need to make sure you are taking care of yourself. You are in fine shape and I for one would like to make sure you stay that way. If you're finished with your workout, why don't we get you to your quarters so you can freshen up a bit. After that there's something I'd like to ask you."
"Very well," She walked to the replicator and ordered a bidon of water. She took a swag of it and then walked to the entrance. "Let's go then. She had to admit she was a little curious, but she was patient. Plus she been at for some time so she was smelling too.
As they walked out of the gym he reached down and took her hand. He liked the way it felt in his - strong yet gentle at the same time. They continued to walk in the direction of her quarters for a short time until he stopped and turned to her as they stepped to one side of the corridor. "There's something I've been wanting to do since I first walked into the gym and saw you..." He said.
"Oh?" Charlie looked a bit distracted in front of her.
"Just this..." He answered as he leaned in to kiss her.
A bit taken by surprise she didn't push him away, and when she was over the shock, she put her arms around him and kissed him back. As their lips parted she held him there a moment and whispered softly, "And why didn't you do it earlier?" Realising they were a bit close and she was probably smelling because of the workout she let him go.
"I didn't earlier because I wasn't sure about everyone in the gym seeing us being intimate," he said slowly. "But then I decided that it really doesn't matter who sees us or what they think. All that matters is what WE think." He looked at her for a long moment before continuing as they began walking again. "I know I saw you just last night but I've missed you every minute since then."
She chuckled. "Cute," she just said. She knew it threw him off after the kiss they just shared. "But she wasn't ready yet to fall again, but she knew she was. And there would be a point she wouldn't be able to put it off. They came to their quarters and she opened the door to let them in. "So what did want to ask me?" She went to her bathroom and turned on the showers. As she started to lay out clothes on her bed for her to wear. She came out of the bedroom. "And please, sit! Would you like something to drink?" She pulled her hair loose and it fell like waterfall over her shoulders.
"What can I say?" He asked rhetorically. "I DID miss you because I..." He broke off as he realized he had been about to say 'I think I'm falling in love with you' but he caught himself in time. "I...uh...I kept thinking about you..." He finished rather lamely. "And yes I think I'll have a Tarkalean Tea" he said, moving toward her replicator. "What would you like?"
She ordered the tea and handed it to him as he was now standing next to her. "I will get some when I get out of the shower." She made her hair loose and let it go loosely over her shoulder.
He had not thought it possible for her to look more beautiful than he already thought she was but one look at her with her hair cascading over her shoulders showed him just how wrong he was. She was absolutely gorgeous and it was a struggle to keep from staring as he waited for her answer.
"What I wanted to ask you was if you had any plans for the next couple of days?"
She smiled as her made to the showers. "Not really, I have a few shore leave days because of the wedding. Had anything in mind?"
"As a matter of fact I DO have something in mind," he said as he took a sip of his drink. "I thought we might slip away for a couple of days before the wedding and do a bit of exploring. Maybe find a nice, secluded place in a forest somewhere and get back to nature as it were. That is if you'd like to do that."
"Sounds very good to me," She stood in front of the shower. She turned it on and set the temperature. "Maybe you could check the database on a possible location and maybe we can check for gear in the capitol city. I heard a lot of stores are opened there now."
He watched her as she headed for her shower. Then, just before she disappeared, he called out in a rather cheeky tobe "If you need someone to scrub your back, I'm available!"
She giggled back, "Very funny, doctor, but I am sure I can manage. But nonetheless I will keep it in mind."
"Okay, if you insist," John answered as he tried to keep the hint of disappointment out of his voice. He had made the offer in jest but with a slight bit of hopefulness in it. But he also knew that it might be too early in their relationship to expect anything like that. Besides, who knew what might happen in the foreseeable future.
"While you're in the shower I'll see what I can find in the database for camping suggestions" he said. "As for equipment I think just some basics will do - a tent, backpacks, sleeping bags and provisions for a couple of days. Can you think of anything else we might need?"
Feeling the warm water hit her naked skin, she could feel her muscles relax. She could hear him talk in the living room. "Hey I am a marine, basic is all I need. I would even be happy if you hit up Colonel Sheppard up for marine supplies. I am sure he can accommodate us."
"I can do that," John said, a bit disappointed that he had not thought of that solution himself. "I will contact him right now."
In just a few minutes Pearce had contacted the colonel and made arrangements for everything they would need for their campout including military foodstuffs. John hoped to be lucky enough to supplement their supplies with some fresh-caught fish but if not they would be well prepared.
====== later ======
"Everything is squared away with the colonel," John said as he waited for Charlie to finish. "All we have to do is pick up our equipment before we leave the ship."
All dressed up, with a duffle bag with a few supplies she needed she came in the living room. Her long was still a bit wet. She took a brush and just brushed it and braided it. "Well, then, you only need to pack a few of your things and we go down to the planet then." She said smiling.
"I have a confession to make," John said with a grin. "Before I found you in the gym I was hoping you'd agree to go so I'd already packed my bag. All I have to do is go get it."
