Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1, E1: So it Begins
Location: USS Juno-XO's Office
Timeline: MD002 1100 hrs
Bervag got an early start on his newly minted XO duties. Puliing himself out of his bed on the Juno he took a quickie look at his calender, via the computers help. At present Commander Anderson was on ESD getting their collective ducks in a row for clearances and whatnot. So as XO he had the duty of providing the incoming staff a means to come aboard. Luckily he had met the majority last night with the CO. Nevertheless, regulations were there to be followed.
After donning his uniform he made a beeline for his office. Once settled he ordered himself a replicated cup of coffee. He went through his list of names. The CMO he would be seeing in sickbay for his physical, so he figured he'd kill two birds with one stone there. That only left Tactical and flight control. He red the bios of each officer and was intrigued by a certain Lieutenant Xalanth."Dragonian huh." he said. "Sounds interesting." he left a message in the computer for a meeting.
Xalanth had been busy putting his and his family's positions in their new quarters. Without his wife and oldest though things weren't going that well. Travla had already claimed the slightly larger of the two children's rooms and it was doubtful she'd be willing to give it up. Still, Yazar probably wouldn't mind. Checking his to-do list on the computer he noticed the meeting with the XO. After making sure the young hybrid was okay with a book he headed for the Xo's office.
Pressing the door alarm the dragonian waited patiently for the office door to open.
"Enter." the Trill said.
The dragonian stepped into the office his strange form looking out of place against the starfleet office. " Lieutenant JG Xalanth you asked to see me sir." He said as he stood to attention.
"At ease, Lieutenant." Bervag said, coming from behind his desk. He stuck his hand out and smiled. "Commander Bers. But you can call me Bervag." he said. "Can I get you anything?" he asked.
" Thank you sir I'll have a Plomeek tea if the replicator has it." The lizard responded as he took the trills hand and gave it a good firm shake.
"Coming right up. Feel free to take a seat." he said, walking over to the replicator. "Coffee, medium sweet and Plomeek tea." he ordered. He watched as the food materialized. He put his coffee down for just a second before handing Xalanth his tea. He went back to his desk.He saw that Xalanth had already met the CO.
"Well, let me start by welcoming you aboard." Bers began. "This isn't any kind of official thing." he added. "Just wanting to meet the man behind the service record. More or less "hi, how are you." kind of thing." Bevag explained.
" I'm fine sir. Mostly running through the list of my department and getting my family settled in their new home." The dragonian replied as he took a sip of his tea. The replicators could never make it as good as his mate did
Bervag nodded. "Sounds good." he said. "So, tell me about yourself?"
" Not much to know about me that's not in my file. I'm the only one of my kind in the starfleet. Happily married to the girl of my dreams with two daughters who I love to bits, I'm a skilled hand to hand fighter and a dam good shot. I have an accursed curse burned into my DNA that i whish the egg heads could get rid off. I also like my alcohol and meat." The reptile replied grinning slightly at the basic abridged version of his life. " What about you sir?"
"Not much to tell really. Standard academy stuff until senior year, ewnt there as i never really expected to be bonded. That's where I had a fair bit of culture shock being the only fleeter on a ship of Marines.' he laughed. "Mainly shuttle piloting. Nothing too fancy, but learned a lot. Got content to be the "dashing flyboy type."
"Turned out I was selected for a symbiont after all. Since bonding, I've entertained the notion of a family, but haven't had the time as of yet. That's pretty much it."
" I'm sure you'll find someone. I never thought I'd find someone till I found T'para." The reptile replied remembering the moment fondly.
"Thanks, lieutenant." Bervag smiled.
" No problem. I can still remember the first time i saw her. It was during the riots back in 2380 when the police requested starfleet to back them up. I was tasked to go and escort some medical cadets to one of the safe zones. Saw her the first time that day and we fell in love at first sight. Didn't work up the courage to admitted it several months later though." The lizard replied his voice showing with a found tone in his voice.
" If you don't mind me asking sir. You're relationship with the symbiote. Is there a clear line were you began and it begins?" The security chief inquired.
"Id more or less say yes." Bervag said, sipping his coffee. "Day to day I'm still Bervag for the most part. However I see things that jog previous hosts to the surface. Read something. Meet someone. That sort of thing. Then there's like a new trait that pops up. It's been an interesting ride." he smiled.
" Sounds very bizarre. No offense intended sir. " The lizard said his face becoming very apologetic
"None taken!" " Bervag said. "Keeps things interesting.".
" Thanks. Are you nervous about the mission sir. " Replied the dragonian as he took another sip from his drink. They never could get the taste right on the replicator.
"I'd be lying if I said I was a hundred percent confident," Bervag stated. "But, I'm not afraid to admit a little nervousness."
" We're going into the complete unknown. I don't think any of don't feel slightly nervous. I'm just happy my family with me. I always feel safer with them around. " The security offier said.
Bervag nodded.
" Well sir it's been nice talking to you, but i really need to get going. Need to do the checklist to make sure all the equipment for security has arrvied." The lizard said as he finished his tea.
"Of course." Bervag said. "Great talking to you." he smiled.
