[USS Shanghai] S1E2: Encounter in the Abyss
Location: Messhall kitchen
Timeline: MD + 3 0600
Dan had awoken early as always. He was already in his kitchen sharpening his knifes and cleaning his kitchen. He had to prepare for breakfast that would start at 0700 up till 0900. As usual breakfast would be a buffet with breakfast treats and sandwiches. Outside his team was setting up the buffet tables. Dan took his duties as chef very serious.
Half an hour later a crewman came at his kitchen ordering some coffee.
Dan sighed. "Crewman, I am not a bar, I cook your meals, if you want a coffee you can use the replicators or ask the bartenders at Nemo's, I am sure they would be happy to accomidate you. That is if they are open yet."
The crewman nodded and left the kitchen.
His daughter, T'Meela watched the whole thing and then walked in to the kitchen. "Father, I am here as you requested."
"Ah, T'Meela, bring out these bowls of baguets on the buffet table." He put two bowls with bread in her hands. Dan loved to use french words or the french pronounciations of words.
T'Meela looked at the bowls. "Baguets?" She whispered. She brought them to the buffet table, placing them on each side of the table, and then she returned to the kitchen. "Father, do you expect me to help you in the kitchen?"
"Yup, and at 9 you will study, and after lunch you will assist your mother, and after that more studies. You didn't really think you were on holiday here."
"Of course not father."
"Good! Take these pitchers of milk."Dan handed her two pitchers of milk.
T'Meela sighed as she went to put the pitchers on the tables. "I should've stayed on Vulcan."
"What's that?" Called Dan from the kitchen.
"Nothing, father." T'Meela put the pitchers on the table. "What will I do in sickbay, clean medical appliances?" She walked back put out more food on the table.
Around 0700 the first crew members entered the room. T'Meela was standing next to the kitchendoor. Her hands behind her back. She looked around the room. She walked to the table and took a glass of milk. She put the empty glass on the table and walked passed the door. "I will start my studies now. I will be in my room."
"Alright honey." Dan was looking on a pad with the menu for lunch and dinner.
T'Meela left the messhall. She looked behind her as the door closed. She sighed and left.
Dan meanwhile looked up, but T'Meela was gone. He looked back on his padd and sighed. He understood this was hard on his daughter, and that for ten years coming ahead. But she was also having a hard time on Vulcan. His mother told him that she was much more messed up then he was at that age. She believed that it would best if they kept T'Meela with them.
The girl had no perspective, obstinate in her own way. Unable to control her emotions. How was he suppose to to change her? Maybe this wasn't a great time to get an assignment in outer space, and maybe not for ten years. And on the other hand, this could be good for her. She needed to get perspective again. But getting her emotions in check was probably T'San's department. He was never good at it either. He was more human, and he had no problem admitting it.
He put the pad down. "Right, those potatoes won't peal themselves."
Scene fades.
