Mission:
[USS Shanghai] S1E2: Encounter in the Abyss
Location: Holodeck 2
Timeline: May 15, 2394 21:00 Hours
Janie was standing in the middle of the holodeck. Her favorite program had been paused and she was making slight changes to it when the chime sounded on the door. "Come in." She called, not looking back at it.
She was wearing a period dress that cinched below her bosom. It was a cream colored thing with a few embroidered flowers and a soft pink ribbon around her waist that draped down the back. Her hair was twisted up into a bun with a few lose strange brushing her neck. Janie turned just in time to see Bervag enter.
Bervag entered in period formal attire. He hoped he was wearing it well too. He saw Janie standing there and smiled. He walked over, ready for whatever may come his way. Admittedly comedies were more his speed, but he was open to new things...with new people. "You look great!" he said.
"Thank you," she grinned at him. "You look very handsome as well, don't worry, no one will notice your spots. You could have come in your uniform and the characters wouldn't notice. All they'll want to know about you is how much money you make and if you are single." Janie laughed. "Are you ready for this?"
He nodded. "Lets go."
He was being such a good sport about it. Janie was inwardly please that he was willing to give it a try. She blushed slightly thinking he must like her if he were willing to do so. "So this begins the Woodhouse residence. Father and daughter live here. the daughter's governess is about to get married and Emma, the daughter, matched them up. If you get confused just follow me." She led him toward the house. Around the back of it there was a garden wedding just about to start.
"Sounds good." he nodded.
She smiled at his short answers. At least he wasn't running and she'd gotten him here in full dress too. "So I could give you a choice about whether to be an observer or be part of the story. But I figured I didn't want to torture you that much on our first date." At least Janie was assuming that's what this was. She reached for his hand, pulling him toward the house, but off to the side of the wedding guests as they watched the party. The wedding was almost over, as that was where the story began. "There's Emma." Janie pointed her out with her right hand. "The blond in the light pink dress."
He nodded as Janie spoke. He made note of who Emma was for reference. First date? he thought. He smiled at the thought. He was liking this already. A thought sprang into his mind as he watched the scene unfold. He didn't know if it was the story, or himself but he asked anyway. "Would you care to join me for a walk, Janie?" he said. "Explore the garden maybe?
Janie looked at the wedding procession and then over at Bervag. The program would continue on without them and she could always come back later and enjoy it by herself. He had been such a sport to agree to come in the first place, in dress. "Sure," She smiled at him, letting him lead her off. It was such a beautiful day.
Bervag beamed and led her down a beautiful garden path. The surrounding plants were a mixture of so many vibrant colors. The perfect backdrop for the scene. They walked along and Bervag, albeit out of his norm, was enjoying himself. She did say date? he thought. "Thank you for the invite by the way." he managed to get out. He didn't know what to say really.
"I'm honestly surprised you said yes." Jane blushed a bit. "I mean there aren't a lot of men who would find this sort of thing tolerable." She resisted the urge to reach for his hand, she didn't want to scare the man off. And who was she to be so . . . confident in a relationship, if that's what this was.
Bervag blushed as well. Normally she'd be right. It was just something about their first meeting that got him there dressed up as he was. He smiled at her as they went along.
Janie seemed to notice the blush and she couldn't help but laugh. "I'm not sure either of us know what we're doing. I find that slightly amusing. Probably a good thing." She sighed and took his hand anyway as she stopped to smell a large daisy like flower that was blooming in a hedge.
He nodded. "At least were doing it together.' he said. It sort of slipping out. Smiling when she took his hand.
Janie laughed again and plucked the flower handing it to Bervag. It was only a holodeck after all, it wouldn't hurt the plant since it wasn't real. "Yes. This is true. So, did you have a plan when you led me off the path?" She took a step closer to him, more curious how he'd react than having a plan behind it.
No he said to himself. His stomach was in knots. Then again that could've been Bers doing the tango for all he knew. He put the flower in his lapel. The fact that Janie had stepped closer wasn't lost on him. "Caught up in the moment I guess." he managed to say. "Not to say that's a bad thing." he added.
"No, no it's not." She had no idea what made her do it. She normally never would have acted this way on a first date. Later she might have chalked it up to the sun shining down on her head, the smell of the flowers in the garden, the way Bervag was dressed and the effort he'd made in coming on the date in the first place. She took one final step toward him, stood on her tiptoes and kissed him softly on the lips.
Bervags eyes doubled in size, but only for a quick second. Truthfully, he'd wanted to do the same. Only she'd beat him to it, which Bervag didn't mind one bit. He hugged Janie and returned her kiss with one of his own.
Relaxing immediately as his arms wrapped around her, Janie found herself losing time. It felt as if the kisses had lasted both seconds and several life times by the time they broke away. "Wow," she finally managed to get out.
Good wow or bad wow? he couldn't help but think. He assumed good. That's the way he felt. Like everything had just balanced itself out and it was just them in that moment.
"Sorry, I probably shouldn't have done that." She blinked up at him, his arms still around her back. "I guess I just got caught up in the scenery . . . . and you have really pretty eyes." She chuckled when she realized what she said. "Uh anyway. " Her heart was pounding but she didn't move away from him.
"Nothing to apologize for, Janie." said Bervag. "And you have pretty eyes as well." he added.
She took a step back and reached for his hand again. "There's a bench over there. Maybe we should just sit." She had the strangest urge to want to listen to his heart beating. Was she losing her mind?
"That sounds great." Bervag said. His heart was pounding as he took her hand. He felt alive.
"Did I make you nervous?" She frowned slightly as she pulled him over to the bench and sat down. "Maybe I should stop by sickbay I'm definitely not being my usual self."
"Not at all." he smiled. As far as Bervag knew, this was herself. He felt at ease with Janie, ever since they met at Nemo's
"Tell me about your family." She said, distracting herself so she didn't try to kiss him or snuggle up on the bench. She really needed to get to know him first. "Are your parents still alive?"
"They are." he smiled. "Retired on the hone world by now." he said. "Former scientists, which is why I became a pilot to be honest." he laughed. "For Variety's sake more than anything else." He was grateful for the interest, but his interest was in Janie.
"What about you Janie?" he asked, his curiosity out in full force.
"They are yes. They're not together anymore, split up when I was a teenager. Mother is a stylist and my Dad is a botanist. And I have three younger very nosy sisters."
He nodded as he listened.
"I really don't think my childhood was all that interesting," Jane smiled. "What about you? Got any siblings?"
"Nope. Only child. Would've liked a brother though." he smiled
"You can borrow a couple of my sisters as long as you promise not to fall in love with one of them."
"Thanks." he said. He was falling for her. He hoped that the feeling was mutual. "I promise." he said, loving this moment.
