952 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: [USS Shanghai] S1, E5: Countdown
Location: USS Juno Bridge
Timeline: 06/01/2394, 1020 Hours

"Miss Taylor, place us on a parallel course with the freighter." Ordered Harry.

"Aye Captain, adjusting our course now." Said Avril as she moved the USS Juno into position. She could tell from a visual perspective, that the freighter had taken some damage. She hoped that Kerja and Tera were alright.

"Mister Newman report to the bridge." Called out Harry, as he tapped on his combadge for his new chief engineer to report to the bridge.

"On my way Captain." Said Alexander.

"Tactical any new sightings from the other freighter?" Asked Harry, wondering where they were.

"No Captain, they disabled our satellite on the other side of the wormhole." Said the Tactical Officer, who was covering for Xalanth, since he was on the away mission.

A couple of minutes had passed, and Alexander had walked onto the bridge. "I could use your help at Engineering." Said Harry, as he walked over to the engineering station.

"Yes Captain." Said Alexander.

"Keep a lock on the away team. I have bad feeling about this." Said Harry, wondering what was going on with the Freighter. He wondered if his daughter was okay. Damn regulations prevented him from leaving the ship.

"Will do Captain." He said wondering why he did not ask a low ranking ensign to do it. He had no idea the Captain's daughter was on that freighter or suppose to be on it.

"Miss Taylor, you have the bridge for a moment. I need to talk to Starfleet Command." Said Harry as he walked to his ready room. And locked the door.

"Aye Captain, I have the bridge." Said Avril, as she walked over to the command chair, and took a seat. She still felt awkward sitting in the chair.

After the captain left, Avril looked over to Alexander. " Mister Newman, scan the freighter, how badly damaged are they?" Asked Avril, waiting for his response.

"Most of damage is minor, the weapons fire targeted the shield array of the freighter. I do not believe the goal was damage the freighter. But to drop the shields long enough to take something from the freighter." Said Alexander, wondering who wanted to take something from this freighter. He had no idea, the Captain's daughter was on that ship.

"Do we have a weapons analyses on the SS Kiyoko? What attacked the freighter?" Asked Avril as she looked to Alexander. She had a feeling the captain would be asking when he got back on the bridge.

"Checking now." Said Alexander, as he walked over to the tactical display. He continued to run around different stations, trying to help out, where he was needed.

"I suggest you work fast, the Captain is going to want answers." Avril ordered.

"The weapons fire is consistent with Gilian Weapons fire." Said Alexander with a deep concern. Why did the pirates attack so close to two major federation. Reconciliation would be almost instant. What was worth the risk?

"Gilian Pirate Guild?" Asked Avril, with a tone of confusion on her voice. Why would they be so bold to attack a freighter so deep in federation space. She was curious what cargo on the freighter so valuable, they would risk the Federation tracking them down. "Anything listed on their manifest, to explain why they would be after the cargo on the freighter." Asked Avril?

"Weapons fire is consistent with Gilian weapons fire." Said Alexander, as he trusted in the tactical data the computer was giving him. "Shall I notify the Captain?" Asked Alexander.

"No we will wait for him to return, he will want an update, have a feeling he will be coming out shortly." Said Avril and almost on cue, Harry walked back onto the bridge.

Harry completed his call with Commodore Martinez, just a couple of days ago he was still a Captain and now he was the section commander of the area. He was happy for Domingo, but at the moment he was more curious if the away team or the bridge crew learned anything about the attack on the freighter. "Report?" Called out Harry, as he looked to Avril.

"Lieutenant Newman has identified the weapons fire, Lieutenant." Called out Avril as she walked back over to the helmsman station. And listened in.

"Weapons fire is consistent with Gilian energy signatures." Said Alexander.

"That is a bold move by the pirates, what was on the SS Kiyoko, that was so valuable?" Harry asked as he waited for someone on the bridge to respond.

"Nothing unique or rare is listed on their manifest." Said Alexander.

"Open a channel to the away team."

"Commander report?" Asked Harry as he waited for Bervag to respond.

"Moving through the ship now, Captain. Looks bad, but flyable in my opinion, but I'm no engineer. Almost at the bridge." Bers replied.

"Any cargo missing?" Asked Harry, wondering what the pirates took?

"Pulling up info now. Cargo manifest. Everything seems to be here." Bervag replied. " Pulled up passenger Mani...fest." he said.

He noticed the pause from Bervag. "What did you find Commander?" He asked, wondering who was missing from the manifest, he hoped he was paranoid. He hoped, Bervag was going to tell him no one. That maybe it was a botched up heisting.

"I do recongize one name. Kerja's." He said. "T'para can't get a clear reading but.." he trailed off.

"Copy the logs and get back to the Juno as soon as possible." Said Harry as he started to panic.

"Miss Taylor, as soon as the away team is aboard, alter our course. Were tracking the pirates." He called out, somehow keeping his cool. The away team beamed back over and the USS Juno was on her way chasing after the pirates.
