Charlena walked around barefooted through her appartment in her pyjamas. Which was a white shirt and grey shorts. Her black, long hair hung gracefully on her hips. She was holding a cup of hot herbal tea. She had grasped the mug tightly as she was blowing the hot steam off. she stared thoughtfully in front of her as she stopped in front of her bed. Her thoughts wondered to the evening she just had.
It was a wonderful evening. She never expected to feel differently about a man, this man. After being hurt and left by captain Anderson she never thought to love again. After Harry she had thought no man were to be different and they were all the same. That was until she met John. He was different. He didn't come over forceful. Even though he did make the first initial step by asking. She kept on her toes and didn't expect this to happen. This feeling she had wasn't a feeling she ever felt before with anyone. With him she felt quite at home.
Still barefooted, she walked out in to her living room and put the mug on her desk. She was still in thought and then she found herself walking out in the corridor. As a security chief she knew blindly where all the senior staff recided, including the captain's quarters. She memorized it, so she wouldn't have to look it up when needed. So automatically she walked in the right direction and stopped in front a door. She looked at the number and realized she had walked herself to his room. She smiled and nodded to a passing officer and waited for him to be out of side, before she took a deep breath and pressed the door chime.
After his shower, John had changed from what he had worn on their date to a more comfortable T-shirt and gym shorts, then picked up a PADD. He had originally thought of turning in for the night but as he wasn't really all that tired he decided to make another attempt at getting some work done. There were crew physicals to be scheduled for the next few days and he also needed to go over some of the medical staff's personnel files.
John was only part Betazoid so his telepathic powers were somewhat limited. In fact, unless the person was really in close proximity (or in the case of an Imzadi, mentally linked with him) his power was basically limited to empathic only. So it was rather surprising to him when he suddenly got the impression that someone was standing just outside his door - an impression that was confirmed when his door chime suddenly rang.
He thought at first that it might be someone with a medical emergency, then quickly put that thought from his mind. After all, if that had been the case, sickbay would have commed him, wouldn't they? After all, that had been the instructions he had left. He quickly sat up and tossed the PADD onto the table beside him, then called out "Come in..."
As the doors opened, she stepped in, holding her hands behind her back and said, "Sorry to disturb you, doctor...errr, I mean...." she pulled her hands from her back and continued, "...John." She took a deep breath. "I couldn't sleep. I feel like we didn't end thing... I mean our date...was it a date...well..." She noticed she started rambling, but she knew it was her move now.
Charlie was a bit at a loss and didn't know what else to do than to just walk over to him and sit down next to him. Quietly she put her arms around his neck and then pressed her lips on his. When she let him go she smiled. "That's better," she said, "I feel better now. "
John had not known who it would be when his door opened so he was pleasantly surprised to see Charlie step inside. He wasn't exactly sure what she meant about their date ending right and for a moment he thought she may have been offended by his having kissed her hand. However it didn't take long for that thought to be proven wrong when she sat down and put her arms around him. And his surprise became even greater when she leaned in and kissed him.
When their kiss ended John didn't say anything for a long moment, just being content to enjoy her being so close. Finally, when he was able to speak, he said "I feel better as well. To be completely honest, I wanted to kiss you while we were standing outside of your quarters, but..." He let his voice trail off.
Charlie nodded, "It didn't cross my mind honestly until the doors closed behind me. It's been bugging me ever since," She said. "It felt weird to just come back out. But then I regretted that too." She got up. "Maybe I should go, I am kind of an early bird, I am not sure if you could handle waking up at 5 am." She chuckled a little. "although I don't have to get up early, probably something I got used to doing." She shrugged.
"Believe me, I'm used to being up all hours of the day or night," John said. He was really hoping that Charlie wouldn't leave - at least not right away. "A doctor never knows when he or she will get a call or how long the call will take. In fact," he said, allowing a small chuckle, "when you rang my first thought was that it was someone with a medical problem." He reached out and took one of her hands in his. "Speaking of medical problems, I know it's only been a few hours but how does your ankle feel? We walked quite a bit this evening. Are you having any problems with it?"
There she was, standing barefooted with him holding her hand. "Well now that you mention it." She sat down again and put her foot out. "I guess, I learned as a marine to walk through the pain, so I must have ignored it. Maybe you could look at it."
"I'd be happy to," he said as he knelt down in front of her. He looked carefully at her ankle, checking for any signs of swelling or discoloration. Finding no evidence he began to massage her foot lightly as he probed her ankle with his fingers. He supposed he could have used the medical scanner in the kit he kept in his quarters for emergencies but somehow he felt that a more...personal...touch was called for in this situation. "Let me know if this hurts, okay?"
Charlie just leaned back on the couch. "Yea sure, but I think it's very good. Maybe you could do the other one too while you there anyways." She giggled.
"Your wish is my command, M'Lady..." John said with a wink as he began to massage her other foot. He gently rubbed the top of her foot then as he slowly worked his way around her ankle, an absolutely fiendish idea crossed his mind. He didn't know if she was ticklish or not but there was one way to find out for sure. So, slowly and gently he rubbed her instep before lightly raking his fingernails along the sole of her foot.
She grinched her foot a little as she started to giggle. She could feel him hold her foot tightly. "Stop it," she said. She no one done that to her before so she had no idea she was ticklish. She could feel a warm glow in her cheek as she was blushing.
"Aha, so the Marine IS ticklish," he said with a grin as he continued to trace patterns on the bottom of her foot. "That's very interesting." Then, still maintaining a hold on her foot with one hand, he slowly began to work his way over her heel and up the back of her calf. "Still want me to stop?" he asked. "If I do it's going to cost you..."
Charlie was still giggling. She tried to get her foot loose and then said, "Yes, what does it cost?"
"Oh, I don't know..." John said as he pretended to think. "Maybe another kiss?
She stopped her fighting and said, "Ok.." As soon as she felt his grip loosen she slid on the floor with him and pulled him close to her and kissed him. She smiled. "A marine keeps their word, no matter what."
"I'm glad to know that," John said. Privately he wondered where else she might be ticklish but he kept that thought to himself. To her he said "I have to be honest with you about something. You're the first woman since..." he hesitated a bit, debating whether or not to bring the subject of his divorce into the conversation. Finally he decided that it was something to leave for another time, so he attempted to amend what he had been about to say. "...err, that is, you're the first woman in a long time that I've really felt comfortable with."
Charlie nodded. "For a moment I thought you were going to say something else." She sighed deeply and said, "What ever it is, you will tell me in your own time. I just want you to know, that you are the first man I am feeling comfortable enough with. After the last fiasco of a relationship I had I never thought I would..." She looked doubtful to him but then continued, "I never thought I could trust someone again. I put my soul on the line for him. And his daughter....after loosing her mother like that, had no one and he completely ignored her. He ignored me when I stuck up for her. He embarrassed me in front of the entire crew."
She sighed again as to suppress the tears that were coming. 'My last ex is the infamous captain Harold Anderson. The previous captain of this vessel. Driven by his anger for our new enemy. I lost a boyfriend, this ship lost a captain, but his daughter lost much more. Cause after the loss of her mother, she lost her father as well. And I..." She wiped a tear away," ...I wish I had her strength to continue on. I didn't think I could fall for any man again. Even when you asked me out, I was reluctant. But after this evening....even right now being here with you...who are you?" She asked that last bit half smirking.
To be continued...
