Mission:
[USS Ottawa] S1, E3: The True Way
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: 06/01/2394, 1930 Hours
Domingo waited for the crew to assemble in the conference room. He noticed Emily was the first officer to arrive. "Ensign Patterson, why are you here?" Domingo asked, he was not expecting an engineering officer in this meeting of the department heads.
"With Commander Sharpe being acting first officer, I am acting chief engineer, Sir." Said Emily with a smile on her face. This was her first staff meeting, and she was a little excited.
Alyssa walked in to the conference room with the rest of the senior staff on her tail. " Sorry we're late, we were stuck on the bridge doing some routine medical scans. But hey look, the engineer, from down in engineering is here, at least she made it in time."
"Still waiting on a few officers, don't worry about it Lieutenant." Said Domingo, as he continued to review his data pad, in preparation for their mission.
Drakord entered the conference room following Alyssa, he looked around the room at the current occupants and nodded any any that looked at him before moving around the table to where he would usually sit but remained standing along with everyone else.
"Commander Drakord, it's honor to finally meet you." Said Domingo as he saw Jazin's replacement at security arrive into the conference room.
"The feeling is mutual sir, for both meeting you and being allowed to serve aboard this vessel." Drakord replied with resolute respect emanating from his voice.
Sarah walked in with a pad in her hand. "Hello, Lieutenant Commander Sarah Sanchez-Gillman reporting for duty." She looked around. "So is this like a standing reception?"
"If you prefer." He said, as he continued to sit in his chair, going over the data padd. "Its a briefing commander not a duty shift." He said, with a grin on his face.
Gabe Stepped into the briefing room from the bridge, a PADD in each hand. He switched them both off and placed them on the table as he pulled out his chair.
"Seems like we're mostly all here." He said, taking his place next to the captain... the second incorrect chair he'd sat in today. "I trust we're all rested and ready to get back to work?" He added with a smile.
Eoin had been promptly reminded that there was a meeting today, He was the Chief flight control officer after all. He was a department head and needed to there, His uniform all neat and pressed, his hair neat and in a quiff he left his room and made for the conference room smiling "Aafternoon Captain, sorry if i am late i only got finished updating the helm station 10 minutes ago" he spoke as he took a seat. It was wierd all of his life he had wanted to be a cheif of staff, just like his uncle and now he had attained that dream.
"Thanks for coming promptly. I know we just celebrated a wedding, but Starfleet has a mission for us. The Federation has been contacted by the Detapa Council, Counselor Elim Garak, is sending a Cardassian delegate to rendezvous with us in the Kilranda System. They are asking for assistance with an internal conflict, they are having." Started off Domingo, as he took a breath.
"Well there's a first time for everythin' I guess. The Cardassian's aren't exactly known for their willingness to let other people into their internal politics. Frankly the fact they are now worries me slightly, makes me wonder what kinda trick they have up their sleeves." Gabe replied, looking at Dom.
"That's what why we are going. Starfleet wants us to find out what the Cardassians's want." Said Domingo, as he looked to Gabe, and then at everyone else. He took a short breath and went on. "We have had little contact with the Cardassians, since the war. They have been rebuilding. Our orders are to meet the cardassian delegation, and here what they have to say."
"I really never meet this race, I was a young child during the war. But from what I have read, the Cardassian's were devastated almost to the point of extinction. And they are a proud race, so to ask for assistance, something big must have happened." Suggested Emily, making speculation based on loose facts.
Drakord took his seat at the table and began reviewing the mission details on his padd. "Well I fought the Cardassians in the war so I know first hand just how... cunning they can be. I would advise extreme caution at all times. Although I find it unlikely this is some ploy to attack us they will most likely have some ulterior motive at play." He peered around the room, "Perhaps not, but we'd best air on the side of caution just to be sure."
"Agreed Commander, the Cardassians have a reputation for being masters at manipulation and secrecy. We should expect, we will not be getting the full story. We will have to play their game, in order to find out what their true agenda is." Domingo said, wondering what the Cardassians need.
Sarah sat down at the conference table. "If I know my history correct, Counselor Elim Garak was a member of the Obsedian order. He knows how starfleet and the federation work, so I wouldn't change that. I would go with our normal standard procedures. You know, no weapons, security checks of the delegation as well as their transport. And let the good counselor know we're going to do that. Give him a heads up, see how he responds. Either way, he won't refuse any of our demands. If he is desperate or scheming. What do you think, Commander Drakord?"
"They seem like suitable measures, no weapons will of course be advantageous as would a precautionary search." Drakord nodded across the table.
"Sounds like a reasonable plan, Miss Sanchez, prepare for the arrival of the delegation. I we will meet up with the delegation in the next 24 hours. After this meeting, we will set course for the Kilranda System. We are not wasting any time. The Cardassian's sounded almost desperate for our assistance." Said Domingo, knowing the Cardassian, were keeping things from them. He was very suspicious.
Sarah nodded. "I will need to talk the base security. Could you assist, Commander?" She asked as she looked to Drakord.
Darkord turned to Sarah frowned, "A station?" He asked quizzically.
"Somebody has been reading head in the briefing. Yes the meeting will take place on a new station the Federation has built in the Kilranda System." Said Domingo, as he flipped the screen to an image of an aurora class station. "Welcome to Starbase 714, or as I like to refer to her as Starbase Port Royale." He said, with a big grin on his face. "The station became operational, but only a skelton crew and corps of engineers is aboard the station."
"In that case I'd be more than happy to assist the Commander with whatever she needs, we should arrange a meeting after to discuss the base Security." Drakord said almost as a question to Sarah.
"That's great! I have time," Sarah said with a smile.
"The Cardassian delegation will meet with us Port Royale, we are providing tactical support to the delegation. Apparently whatever has them so worried, is a danger to us all." Said Domingo, who hated to be left in the dark. "The Cardassians will not tell us over a communications channel, what is happening or why they want our help. They said they will tell us in person only."
"I know its getting late, wanted to touch basis with you all. We will arrive in the Kilranda System tomorrow. Your all dismissed." Said Domingo, as he watched the crew leave.
