Mission:
[JM USS Shanghai] S1, E7: The Dragonian Code
Location: Dragonian colony
Timeline: MD001 1600
Bervag walked aimlessly through the Dragonian homeworld, his new four pips getting lighter as he went on. And naturally his mind began to wander. And his body followed suit. And it felt good.
He needed this. Sure it wasn't a holodeck, it was much better. A chance to finally relax.
Nidria had came a bit later. She was doing an order list for the Port Royale bar she was now going to run. As she looked around the planet with all the Dragonians. Being on Earth, she encountered a lot of other races. But the Dragonians were something to get used to.
She took a drink and tasted. "Wow, this is good. Should get some cases of that on the base." She turned around and suddenly bumped in to someone. The cup tipped over and got her all Dragonian drink over her. "Oh, I just got this shirt." She looked up and saw Bervag. "Captain Bers, my apologies, are you ok?" Suddenly she didn't care her shirt was ruined.
"Fine, fine" he smiled. "How about you? Oh. And it's Bervag when off duty"
Nidria chuckled. "So like every time we meet then, Bervag." She grinned and continued, "Unless you want me to come up to your office?"
Bervag blushed. "Only if I can call you Nidria" he smiled. "Did I just say that?" He thought.
She smiled as she shrugged. She said, "Nidria is my name, so yes, you can call me that." She then looked down her shirt. "Well, maybe I need a new shirt. And a new drink." She laughed. "Can I get you anything?"
"Whatever you were having." He said, smiling. "And the least I could do is help"
"Oh, please, Bervag, you make sure the base stays in one piece, while I pour you a drink," She giggled again as she headed back to the bar. She took 2 dragonian drinks and handed one to him. She took a sip. "So, how do you do it?" She waved her hand past her head. "You know the whole other memories."
"I gotta admit I was more than a little overwhelmed. And it stayed that way for a while. Boy am I thankful for my friend. He suggested I find a focus. So he drug me to the academy library. Funny how a book can help you think." He laughed.
She took another sip. "Well, I tried drinking first. But who am I kidding, I am not trained for this. My parents wanted to get me in to the program so badly. I left before they could drag me there." She scoffed. "My parents, you should have heard them when I told them. They were so thrilled." She leaned her head in her free hand. "It's weird, my previous host was a starfleet officer. It's hard not to call you captain or see you as something else. Nidria had no desire to join starfleet. But Nidria Rilog..I am torn between Nidria and Rilog."
"I can get that." Bervag said. "In my view, you're Nidria. You didn't become part of Rilog anymore than Rilog became part of you." He offered as he sipped at his drink. And I certainly didn't expect a symbiont either, to be perfectly honest." He smiled.
She then found a table and sat down comfortably. "Come sit," She offered. She put her drink on the table. "Dan is great, he helped me a lot since I got here. But he is honest in saying he has no experience with this either. Well, if anything, he got me to try meditation. It is calming really."
"Dan is definitely great. Awesome guy. Super resilient, saw that in our last mission" Bervag said.
"Oh yes, he definitely is," Nidira said. "He is a wise Vulcan and he has been like a father to me. Not to discredit my father of course. Despite that I left to find my own way, he did raise me, which probably wasn't easy." She smiled.
Bervag smiled back. He raised his glass. "To Dan"
Nidria held up her glass and smiled. "And to my father." She hit his glass and took a sip from her drink. "This is really good." She then turned to the captain again. "So what made you join star fleet?" She asked.
"To not be a scientist. Honestly" He chuckled. "Truly. My parents were scientists on Trill, and I learned early on that it wasn't for me. So instead of putting in for a symbiont and science academy I chose Starfleet."
"So what did you initially set out to do in Starfleet?" She asked curious and added, "Well, before you went in to command."
"Started out as a helmsman" he laughed. "On an old Miranda class"
She smiled. "Cadru, the host before me was a helmsman, I remember it. As if I was sitting behind the controls myself." She held up her hands looking at them as she was shaking. She looked to Bervag. "Red alert!" She closed her eyes and then shouted, "Changing course, captain. Hard to port. Executing... Captain, both nacelles are gone. Detecting a power surge..." She opened her eyes and pulled her head back as she moved her hands up. And then she pulled back as she fell from her chair on the floor.
"Nidria!?" Bervag said, stooping to her side. He instantly realized what was going on, It had happened to him once. Only thing, he got through it by just letting it play out. Besides. His training was in flying. So he felt powerless. "Nidria?" He said again. "Rilog. It's ok. "
Nidria opened her eyes and looked up to Bervag. "What happened?" She slowly got up and looked around. She put her hand on her head. "And my head feels like it hit something big." She put her hands up and rubbed her temples. "There was a power surge, it killed the host, I remember now. They removed Rilog, they brought Rilog back to Earth not Cadru." She sighed. "That's why they had no choice but to put it in me, there was no time to bring Rilog back to Trill, so bring it to the closest place with an unjoined Trill." She got up. "Cadru ate in my restaurant. He noted in his personal log that he met the most beautiful Trill on Earth. He wanted to come back and see me again. He told someone, a close friend." She put both her hands on her face and laughed uncontrollably and then started to cry. "It's both ironic and sad, isn't it." She looked to Bervag. "Don't you think?"
"I do. I do indeed." He hugged Nidria. "And I understand where you're coming from. The loss I mean. I was recently put in that situation myself. Twice actually. I didn't know what to feel."
Nidria felt his arms around her. She calmed down a bit. She then put her arms around him and hugged him back. She softly whispered to him, "Thank you, Bervag."
"You're welcome" he whispered back.
Nidria smiled as they parted. "So what do you say we got some bottles of this stuff and got back to the ship and drink em. Well safe a few for my bar, cause I think I could get this to go." She chuckled. "And oh, I could really need a new shirt." She got up with the help of Bervag. And they returned to the ship.
Scene fades.
