Ellie was sitting on the biobed as Alyssa was scanning her. She shook her head as she looked at the scanning results. “I am not sure what to say here, Colonel. Everything looks alright.”
Ellie grabbed the tricorder and started to punch in some keys. “Now try!” She said.
Alyssa looked at the tricorder as she pointed it to the colonel. The tricorder started beeping as soon as it detected the colonel. “So, this is paranormal energy. It seems to be lingering, and it’s feeding off your energy, but it’s barely keeping it alive?” She looked questioning at the tricorder. She turned to the Chief Medical’s office. “Doctor M'Jora, could you join me a moment.”
Doctor M'Jora was in the middle of reviewing some of the bio entries; familiarizing herself with any of the more interesting cases. She told Sombra it was alright, and he needn’t get up from under her desk as she rose and crossed to the doorway that exited into the main sickbay. “Yes? What’s all this now?” Her neck gave a slight twinge as she poked her head out the door.
Ellie wasn’t looking forward to the prospect of bringing more people in, but they needed answers. “Maybe we should hold a séance?” She said joking, more because she was nervous. She turned over to Jazin who was standing on the other side of the bed. Ever since they got married, they were more connected than ever it felt like. Without a word he seemed to know what she wanted or needed.
“Or something.” Jazin nodded. Truthfully, he didn’t know what to do. He had been watching old Earth records of “paranormal investigation” and had more questions than answers to be honest. “That’ll bring her out, but we’d need a defense.”
ur'Sa waited to be acknowledged. “Bring who out; a defense against what?” Hir interest peaked, s/he stepped fully out in to sickbay, just outside the door to hir new office. When s/he did, she shivered, something didn’t feel right; like death. The fur raised – not just along her neck, but all up and down her spine. “There’s a darkness in here.” She whispered, but suddenly hoped no one heard her talking to herself. She couldn’t help but emit a low deep-throated growling.
Admiral Llewellyn walked in. “I’m sorry I’m late everyone, but I’ve only just heard about Colonel Ijaans condition.” He nodded to all present. “How is she?”
M'jora looked to the admiral who just entered. She wasn’t aware of his name. She then looked to the other two people in the room. “What condition, what’s going on?”
Ellie turned a moment to the doctor who had just arrived. “Hello, Doctor M'jora, welcome to the U.S.S. Ottawa. There is nothing life threatening going on. I am just possessed, but yes let’s involve the whole ship, it’s just what Umbra wants.” She sighed. She was really tired, and it was affecting her mood. “I am sorry doctor. I am Possessed by a paranormal being from another universe.”
The ursinoid doctor wasn’t sure she knew what possession was or if it even existed. “I’m sorry to hear that. What do you mean, like by a parasite or something?” She gazed around the room.
[Open Tag? Maybe?]
She then put her head in her hands. “So, Commander Ijaan, you are in charge of the Ottawa till further notice.” The Admiral was there, and she couldn’t possibly stay in command in her condition.
Suddenly a soft breeze swept through sickbay. Ellie sniffed. “I smell chocolate chip cookies, the kind my grandmother used to bake when I was younger.”
Alyssa felt the breeze grace past her cheek. She closed her eyes as she smelt something too. “I smell spring blossom.”
The doors to sickbay slid open and Gabe stepped through, he quickly made a note of the people in the room. Rarely is it good when the Brass is hanging around He thought to himself. “Got that last round of scans right here.” He started, “also whose bakin’ bread in sickbay?”
ur'Sa smiled as she ventured a couple of steps closer to the center of attention. She because slightly aroused as the scent of a couple who’d just finished lovemaking flooded her strong nose. “Possessed by a sudden lust for someone I suppose… (sorry I missed it.)”
TAG ALL It might be nice to describe your favorite smell. Just briefly.
"Mmm. Fresh baked cookies." The Admiral said
It was then a human female appeared. She had the features of an Asian girl, long black hair and fair skin. She was wearing a white dress. She looked around the room. She smiled when she saw Dillon. “Admiral, I was hoping to be meeting you here, I trust you.” She then looked around the room again and looked to Ellie.
"Mother Rose. So good to see you again." Dillon smiled
Ellie felt assured by Mother Rose’s presence, but her looking to herself like that, made her worry a bit. She looked back at Mother Rose, “Did I do something?”
Mother Rose seemed to hover towards Ellie. She reached her hand out to Ellie and put her hand on her head. “It is who you brought to this realm.” Mother Rose said as she kept her hand on her head. “Colonel.” She added.
Ellie looked to everyone in the room. “Umbra?”
“Yes,” Mother Rose said. “I will get her out now. It won’t hurt you.”
Folding his arms across his chest, Gabe rolled his eyes. "Uh huh. So ya just appear outta nowhere and tell us ya the answer to all our problems and we're expected to just believe ya. Any I the only one that finds this a little hard to believe? For we know, this is just another trick by Umbra to mess with us." He said, "Not like it's outside her skill or mental state. Ya'll have to excuse me if I happen to think this is a crock of crap." He added, staring at the girl.
"I could be," Mother Rose calmly said. "But Umbra isn't powerful enough in this universe." She moved towards to Gabe. "Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Sharpe, if she had the power she has in the Paranormal Universe, you wouldn't be standing there with your arms crossed. She would have made her move already. Your ship, this base, would have been a blood bath."
She then walked back to Ellie. Ellie swallowed as she looked to Mother Rose. Mother Rose smiled friendly to her. "I am not going to hurt you, colonel." She then reach out her hand and put it on Ellie's head. She then lifted it again and made a yanking motion backwards. A dark shadow appeared and dropped on the floor. Mother Rose put a sphere around the shadow figure that slowly started to take shape of a human female. Her skin was dark, almost black. Long black hair fell down her shoulders to her feet as she stood up from the floor. She fell back to her knees again. She looked up to Mother Rose. Weakly she reached her hand to her. "Rosa," She whispered.
Mother Rose knelled down next to her and reached her hands inside the sphere. "Umbra," She said back to her and took her hand. "What have you done?"
Umbra tried to be angry with her. "You abandoned me. You betrayed me. You betrayed us."
"No!" Said Rosa resolute. "You betrayed us. You betrayed the seeders and all we stand for. You could have gotten your own world to seed 10,000 years ago, but instead you decided to spread death and destruction. And your bitterness helped create the Paranormal Universe. You can no longer live her. The world your created is now the world that can sustain you. You can never be here again."
Umbra's hand slid down she fell to the floor. Rosa grabbed her before she did. Umbra turned to Gabe. And she looked to Alyssa. She then looked to Ellie. She then looked up at Rosa again. "Rosa, I don't remember what I did, all I remember was the anger and the hatred of you leaving me." She closed her eyes and licked her lips, Rosa glowed as she did. Umbra felt a bit stronger to speak on. "I was alone. I didn't want to be alone anymore. Every soul I took, left me. I wanted to take Commander Sharpe and Alyssa, but you knew did you."
Rosa nodded. "The moment you came here, you would slowly die. All you could do is hiss at them, scare them, you couldn't leave the colonel's body, she is your only lifeline. We banned you, remember, returning would surely have killed you, had I not intervened." She lifted Umbra up close to her. "Muy, Ellie, Gabriel, Alyssa, they are not like us. You would have continued to look for someone. They would have all left you in the end."
Suddenly a strange sniffling noise was heard from Umbra. She was crying. Black colored tears rolled down from her eyes. "Being merged with Colonel Ijaan I felt again. I can not give back the lives I took. And I can not stay here either. Please send me back where I belong. I am the seeder of the Paranormal universe. It is where I belong."
Rosa cried as well. She gently touched her former lovers lips. "I have missed you so much. Umbra, I love you still. We are seeders, we create, not destroy." She then helped her up.
Umbra looked to Rosa. "Rosa, I never stopped loving you, I just thought you did." Her shadow grew behind her as Rosa's glow shined brighter as well. "Thank you for giving me the strength to return" She hovered to Gabe. "You were very close to finding the to way to kill me, commander. I am sorry for what I put you through. But death would have been too mild for me for all the crimes I committed. I can't take away the shadows that haunt you, it is against the seeders rules to interfere with another seeders children. I have done that once and payed the price for it. But I can stop haunting you and her." She looked to Alyssa.
For a moment Gabe said nothing, the mere sight of Umbra raising an anger in him he could barely keep under control. He stared her directly in the eyes, his arms still folded, his jaw set hard.
"That would be a good idea." He finally said, his voice filled with anger and venom. Even he was surprised by his vocal reaction, but he paid it no heed, he couldn't.
"I understand you don't trust me, I am not asking your trust nor your forgiveness. I deserve neither," She bowed her head. "Which is why I must return to my prison, haunted by the spirits that I have killed. For eternity."
"Good... this time stay there." He replied, blood running down his hand from where his nails were digging into his palm as he clenched his fist tightly.
Mother Rose looked over to Gabe. "Umbra can never return. She will die if she does. And she knows that." Umbra nodded that. "I can't even be here now. I can even have this form now, because Rosa put me in a bubble of my own universe."
"Ah," Alyssa said as she walked to Gabe. She had a dermal regenerator. "So, you only survived because you were living on the Colonel's energy." She took Gabe's hand to heal them.
Umbra turned to Ellie and Jazin. "From all the people here, I harmed you the most. Colonel, Commander. And there is nothing that I can say to bring back your counterparts or their captain. Or the Ottawa's crew that I made suffer. But there is something you should know. Your Captain Culbertson, he has engaged the paranormal Crescent. You must return to the paranormal universe to say your goodbye. Also, to win the coming war here, you must face the paranormal Crescent. I can bring you back to do so. I will hold the portal open til you are back to this universe. Cause colonel, you can never return when you come back here. And I can never return here either, I would surely die if I do."
Ellie said quietly as she had stared at the two light and dark females speak with on and another. As Umbra spoke to her she turned away. She didn't know what to say for the moment. She was in thought about what to do with the information Umbra just gave her.
Jazin just simply nodded. It was logical it would come full circle, however he wasn't too thrilled as the prospect of returning.
Mother Rose put her hands behind her back. "Now Umbra has one of your weeks to return to the Paranormal universe, if she remains, she will die. I will leave the orders of this mission to you Colonel Ijaan. You will be to full strength after a good meal. She then turned to Dillon. Admiral, you and I should prepare for a different mission with the Saigon."
Ellie looked to her crew present in sickbay. She pushed herself up. "Jazin, Gabriel, prepare the Ottawa, we will leave in 24 hours." She took Jazin's hand. "It would be great to see Captain Culbertson again." She smiled to him. She then turned to Alyssa and M'Jora. "Right, doctors, I could use a good use meal. You heard Mother Rose."
Alyssa nodded. "Of course, as long as we are docked here I shall ask Chef Dan to prepare you a good meal."
"Oh thank heavens, yes, food from chef Dan," Ellie said. "Please do!"
"Thankyou." Gabe said nodding to Alyssa, touching her hand gently. "We'll be ready Captain." He added, turning to Ellie. He took a minute to calm himself before he continued.
"While ya have yaself a fancy meal, I'll get the Ottawa purrin' like a kitten." He said with a smile.
Umbra walked to Mother Rose who was now standing quietly to the side. She took her hand. "Rosa, I have so much to atone for. I have been a fool and I can't turned back time. Thank you for this moment, though short, to be with you once more." She moved closer to Mother Rose while now holding both hands. "To say proper good bye to you. I couldn't the last time, as I was being banished." She looked longing to her. "Rose, once more. To remember you by." She closed her eyes as her human figure turned in to a dark shadow.
Mother Rose looked to Umbra. "Here, now?" She asked.
Umbra turned around and winked at Admiral Llewellyn. "Dillon deserves this."
Mother Rose looked to Dillon as well and she smiled. She held up her hands and closed her eyes as her human form turned in to a light figure as the light and dark embraced each other. Softly Mother Rose whispered in everyone's mind, This is our true from, Admiral. Because Umbra has been feeding on Paranormal energy she appears as the darkness she has become.
They turned back in their human forms locked in each others arm. For a moment they stayed that way, then they let go of each other. Mother Rose hovered back to Dillon. "Admiral, my friend, it is time, to return to Floria. My children, await you."
Dillon nodded
Umbra turned to Elie and Jazin. "I will lead the way when you are ready." She then turned in to her true from before slithering out of the room.
