Ellie now got up, as a marine she wasn’t really sitting much on duty. She put her hands behind her back. Set a course to that wormhole, but slowly ensign.” She remembered the last time she went through one of Umbra’s creations. That wasn’t pleasant. She then sat down. “Shields up!” She ordered.
Kelly pushed on some of the keys on her console. “Going in on half impulse, sir.”
Slowly the Insignia-class vessel went into the wormhole. Slowly it moved forward. Nothing could be noticed on the ship while moving through the wormhole. That was until they moved out of the wormhole again after a few minutes.
An energy blast hit the ship and shuddered the whole ships. Immediately Ellie rose to her feet. “Tactical report!”
…and now the continuation!
As the USS Ottawa came out of the wormhole in the alternate Gamma quadrant, the ship was immediately attacked by a Crescent battle cruiser. The Location they emerged was in the middle of a Skirmish between the Alternate Federation and the Alternate Crescent.
“Fek`lar! We came out in the middle of a battle. Raising shields and taking ship to red alert. Phasers and torpedoes ready to go,” he said quickly as the ships shields bounced into place. I am also getting a hail from…the Ottawa-A? Captain?” he said with a questioning look.
“Of course, Commander, we are in an alternate universe; of course, we are going to encounter some familiars.” Ellie said. “Put it on screen.” She looked to the screen. She wasn’t sure who she was expecting on the other side, somewhere she hoped Umbra was wrong, but when she looked up to the screen the face of Commodore Meran appeared.
“This is Commodore Chelsea Meran, captain of the USS Ottawa-A, please identify yourself.” She stated.
Ellie got up from her chair. “Commodore, I am Colonel Ellis Sheppard, from the USS Ottawa-A, I am from another…”
Chelsea interrupted her. “I know who you are, Colonel, I knew the moment I saw you on screen. Has your Ottawa fallen to the enemy as well? I see you’ve chosen an Insignia-class as well.” She smiled, but then looked serious again. “We have not much time, can you help out here?”
“Of course, Commodore,” Ellie nodded. “We will talk after.”
“Let’s rendezvous at starbase New Hope, Meran out!” And she disappeared of the screen.”
Ellie looked to her crew. “Helm, evasive maneuvers, tactical, engage the enemy.” Ellie ordered.
“Understood. Targeting enemy vessels. Phasers locked; photons ready to fire. Firing……” K`Loth hollered. Two of the closest enemy ships exploded as the photon torpedoes hit the already damaged hulls. It took more phaser fire and direct hits to disable another enemy ship.
“Helm come to heading 135 mark 4,” K`Loth said as he targeted another ship.
Before the helm could change course, the Ottawa was hit hard again, and this time there were small explosions that took out K`Loth’s console. “Fek`lhr!” he hollered grabbing his arm. Blood appeared as he shook it off and made for an alternate console and brought up another firing solution.
Samantha stood next to the command chairs and looked around as everyone was going along their business. She walked around the bridge and checked everyone’s consoles and mentally stored the information in her head. She stood next to K`Loth who was standing at tactical. She then looked to the Colonel. “Colonel Ijaan, you must raise the second shield.”
Ellie turned around to her 16-year-old cadet Yeoman. “Second shield, cadet?”
Samantha pointed on the tactical console. “This must be one of the modifications Umbra installed.” She looked to the brown bear next to the white one.
Umbra nodded. “It’s one of the technical advancements of this universe. It may be wise if you had them too in the coming war in your own universe. The second shield provides protection against the Crescent’s mental abilities. The Other Ottawa has that shield up as well. The shield only deflects those abilities, it doesn’t suppress them, but it’s enough to make this an equal battle. Technologic wise you and the Crescents are a match.”
Ellie nodded to K`Loth. “Do it, Commander, activate the second shield.”
“Raising second shield now,” he said as he raised it. Turning to look at Samantha, “Very good cadet, you just may have saved the ship,” he said proudly.
Realizing things were escalating in a hurry, the fur-covered doctor mentioned, “I think this is my cue to ‘exit stage left,’ and return to my post in sickbay,” and with that she headed to the aft-port turbolift and depressed the ‘call’ button.
Umbra followed M`jora. “I will go with you doctor. There is not much I can do here now.”
Eventually a turbolift car arrived and M`jora departed the bridge with any who may have joined her.
(Want to continue in a different JP @M`jora)
Ellie nodded absent minded to the doctor. She turned to Jazin. “Report! I want to know how many enemy vessels there are out there.” She then looked to her Engineering chief and Science Chief. “When this is over, I want you two to look over the technology that Umbra put on this ship, and more importantly if you can duplicate it.” As things progressed in their own universe, she was sure war was imminent and just the original tech taken from the original Ottawa didn’t seem enough, and it was unlikely the alternate Starfleet was going to give them the tech.
Gabe folded his arms across his chest and took a few seconds to get his thoughts in order before answering.
“Prefer ta rip it out, with my bare hands if needs be… but I can take a look see what we’re dealin’ with.” He replied, “Looks simple enough, given it’s working with our current systems… unless of course our ‘guest’ modified them as well.” He added with an annoyed grimace.
“I’d like to get some of my science people in to look at it,” Williams said. “Might be something in their technology that could prove beneficial to our science.”
“I’m with you.” Jazin said, looking at Gabe. “Quick and easy”
“I would prefer to study the new modifications. I believe they can help us here in this reality,” K`Loth said clearly.
Ellie nodded. “Make sure you make notes, Commander, we are bringing this technology back to our universe.”
“Yes sir,” K`Loth said. “I am taking notes as you put it,” he added.
Ellie got up. “Also, Commander Williams, it may not be needed, but keep a scanner aimed at that wormhole. I don’t intend to be any longer than needed.”
“I’m on it, Colonel…” Williams answered quickly. “Whether or not it’s needed it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”
Ellie was in her ready room preparing to go to the base and meet with an alternate Chelsea Meran. This Chelsea was in command of the USS Ottawa in this Universe. They haven’t met before. Most of the things had been almost the same as in theirs. Except for the fact that her counterpart was dead. And so was Jazin’s counter. She tapped her badge.
=/\=Commander K`Loth, Lieutenant Ward, Commander Ijaan, please report to my ready room.=/\= She stared at her new desk. She kept standing next to her desk. She knew to be on the safe side she would be needing to set up a small delegation for this mission. And all members need to be fully briefed. She didn’t have to brief Jazin, he went through this universe for nine years with her. She didn’t want to be here, just as much as he did. But they were here for their friend and former captain. James Culbertson.
=/\= Understood. Be right there=/\=
Devin was finishing getting settled in the office, setting up a few bonsai plants to liven up the place, and she could always move them out if a meeting came to be on terms that those in the room didn’t like plants or very light scented flowers. In the meantime, she meant to enjoy the room as she was going to be in here more or less most of the time, though since she was pulling double duty as a counselor, she didn’t want to overdo the decorations. Hearing her name over the internal comms made her jump and she gave a wry grin as she tapped her commbadge, =/\= Ward here, on my way Captain. =/\= she retorted and then headed out the doorway, to find the closest lift and see what the need was to meet in the ready room. She had to fight to ask yet again what the ready room was ready for, wasn’t the old naval term a Captain’s Sea Cabin, meaning their office?
It was a short walk to the captain’s ready room and K`Loth hit the chime and waited.
Devin stepped out of the lift a few moments later, headed for the ready room, and pressed the chime, awaiting permission to enter the room, she tucked an errant curl back into the bun on the back of her head. She switched up her style as much as the regulations allowed but she enjoyed it most when the CO said the skirted variant of the uniform was allowed.
“Enter!” Ellie called. “Ah Lieutenant, Commander, thank you for coming on short notice.” She pointed to Jazin. “You know Commander Ijaan right.” She smiled and then nodded to the other chair in the room. “Please have a seat. I will leave the pleasantries for later, for now I will cut right to the chase. We are here because Commander Ijaan and I were here. For 9 years. I am sure you must’ve heard about the disappearance of the original USS Ottawa, the Steamrunner-class. This is where we came. And upon my return I reported to Starfleet that Captain Culbertson, the previous captain of the Ottawa had died in this universe.” She paused a moment and sighed before she continued, “This wasn’t true. Captain Culbertson remained behind to take command of this Universe’s Ottawa. I have just spoken with his wife Lily. Or rather his widow. Captain Cubertson died about 4 days ago in the alternate Crescent war. We have returned to honor him and return Lily home to our universe.”
She fell quiet a moment to see if the Lieutenant or the Commander had any questions.
Devin nodded her head softly, as she listened to the quick introduction and start of the reasons behind the briefing. The news that they were returning a member back to their own universe was fine with her, she was sorry it wasn’t under happier terms. She would hold her own questions for the moment, but she figured she was here mostly under a counseling standpoint instead of diplomatic, but if there was something, she could do in a diplomatic way she would be more than happy to do so.
K`Loth looked in silence, thought for a moment, then spoke, “I will be honored to have Ms. Lily aboard and will protect her with my life. It would be even more fitting to honor the Captain by holding some type of service in his honor,” K`Loth said softly.
“We will, Commander,” Ellie said. Lilly Culbertson has prepared something; we have come back just in time.” She sighed as her head fell down. “But there is another reason why we Lothe here. We are also here to collect all information they have on their Crescent. And the technology that Umbra installed will help us fight our Crescents. And want you both to get to know what you can about the Crescent known as Kadja and Orson De. Because currently at the starbase in our universe we have two Crescent with the same names. From what I understand from the Base Captain and the Shanghai captain only Kadja is in custody. I am very concerned by this situation.”
Devin nodded her head softly, “Are we on good or friendly terms with them here or is this to be more an information gathering instead of actual diplomatic measures?”
“It would be prudent if it were both Lt. Ward. By being diplomatic, the possibility of gathering the correct information exists. I also believe that we might not be back here if we were not meant to be. Back in our universe we are on the verge of war with these Crescents from our reality. Now if by being diplomatic can get us the much-needed information needed to defeat our Crescents then the mission is a success. We get what we came for and we leave them here with a sense that we are willing to help them if there is a next time. That is how I see it. Now please correct me if I am wrong,” K`Loth said folding his hands.
“This is correct, Commander. And in a way we have already helped them. When we arrived here, we aided them in that last battle,” Ellie said. “And not only, they had 9 years of service from me and Commander Ijaan. I would think they owe us by now.”
She then turned to Devin. “We are on good and friendly terms, and you will find they have no problems with share information with us. But technology is a different thing. But be on your toes. More than anything they need able ships and bodies. The previous Ottawa was stuck here under false pretenses for nine years, but we did get some of their technology eventually. Right now, they know they can’t keep us here. Besides, I don’t think Umbra would allow it. She said we have to return.”
Devin nodded her head, “I will gather as much information as I can.” She would have to go over what they had gotten already so she didn’t end up doubling over the same things. The joys of being new to a shop lots of catching up to do. It was a good thing she enjoyed such challenges.
